Childcare workers will be added to a national register, after state and territories met with the commonwealth, agreeing to establish the database, new mandatory safety training, a CCTV trial, and a ban on personal mobile phones in centres.
The commonwealth has announced it will put $189m towards the safety overhaul, for which the government says work will begin on immediately. The CCTV pilot trial is expected to set up at 300 centres across the country.
