‘When they fail, Americans die’: Trump source blasts FBI, urges swift confirmation of Kash Patel as director

President-elect Donald Trump’s allies are excoriating the FBI for its initial characterization of the brutal car attack in New Orleans as not terror-related, before the nation’s top federal law enforcement agency backtracked and launched a terrorism investigation allegedly connected to ISIS. « The FBI has a no-fail mission. There is no room for error. When they fail, Americans die. It’s a necessity that Kash Patel gets confirmed ASAP, » a source close to Trump told Fox News Digital on Thursday morning. Early Wednesday morning, chaos broke out on Bourbon Street in New Orleans as New Year’s Eve revelers partied on the streets. The suspect, later identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, is accused of ramming a truck into the crowds on the beloved and famed party street, killing at least 15 and injuring dozens of others. Jabbar, who was armed with a Glock and a .308 rifle, was killed after opening fire on police. As details filtered to the public on Wednesday morning, law enforcement officials, including the FBI, held a press conference where a special agent initially told the public that the attack was not related to terrorism. NEW ORLEANS ATTACK: SEARCH CONTINUES FOR BOURBON STREET ‘PEOPLE OF INTEREST’ AS STATE AG VOWS DEATH PENALTY »We’ll be taking over the investigative lead for this event. This is not a terrorist event, » said New Orleans field office FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Alethea Duncan during the press conference. WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT VICTIMS OF NEW ORLEANS TERRORIST ATTACKThe mayor of New Orleans contradicted Duncan in the same press conference, declaring that the attack was connected to terrorism. « Know that the city of New Orleans was impacted by a terrorist attack. It’s all still under investigation. You’ll hear more after me, » Mayor LaToya Cantrell, a Democrat who has served in the role since 2018, said at the presser. The FBI released statements later Wednesday outlining that the attack was now under investigation as an act of terror, including reporting that an ISIS flag was found on the truck that rammed into the crowds. « An ISIS flag was located in the vehicle, and the FBI is working to determine the subject’s potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations, » one FBI statement said. SUSPECT IDENTIFIED AS FBI INVESTIGATES ACT OF TERRORISM AFTER BOURBON STREET ATTACK »The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism. We are aggressively running down all leads to identify any possible associates of the subject, » the statement added. Conservative lawmakers decried the attack and mourned for the victims, while also directing their ire at the FBI for its alleged failures in handling the attack. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, a key Senate ally of Trump’s pick to lead the FBI, Kash Patel, slammed the FBI in a series of messages posted to X and again rallied support for Patel’s confirmation to serve as FBI director. OFFICIALS POSTPONE SUGAR BOWL IN THE WAKE OF APPARENT TERROR ATTACK ON BOURBON STREET »The tragic terror attack that killed innocent people in New Orleans is a stark reminder of the importance of strong leadership. America needs a fearless fighter like @Kash_Patel at the FBI, » Blackburn posted on Wednesday. Blackburn also took issue with the FBI for allegedly reporting to the suspect’s home in Texas after the media had already staked out the property. « The FBI didn’t show up to the NOLA suspect’s address until 1pm today. We were on scene before. No one came out of the home or answered the door, » New York Post reporter Jennie Taer posted to X on Wednesday. Blackburn responded to the Post reporter, saying that the FBI had « failed » its mission as the nation’s top law enforcement agency. « The fact that a reporter has better intel than the FBI tells us all we need to know. The FBI has failed its core mission, » Blackburn posted. WHO IS KASH PATEL? TRUMP’S PICK TO LEAD THE FBI HAS LONG HISTORY VOWING TO BUST UP ‘DEEP STATE’When approached for comment on the criticisms, the FBI directed Fox Digital to its three previous statements on the attack that described it as an act of terror but did not comment on the New Orleans’ agent saying Wednesday that the attack was not connected to terrorism. « This morning, an individual drove a car into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing a number of people and injuring dozens of others. The subject then engaged with local law enforcement and is now deceased. The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism, » the FBI said in one of its three statements provided to Fox Digital. Jabbar was identified as a 42-year-old U.S. citizen from Texas. He was an Army veteran who served as a human resource specialist and information technology specialist from March 2007 until Jan. 2015, and he deployed to Afghanistan from Feb. 2009 to Jan. 2010.Trump slammed President Biden and his administration’s policies for the attack. TRUMP FBI PICK KASH PATEL SHOULD TAKE THESE CONCRETE STEPS TO RESTORE TRUST: FORMER SPECIAL AGENT »With the Biden ‘Open Border’s Policy’ I said, many times during Rallies, and elsewhere, that Radical Islamic Terrorism, and other forms of violent crime, will become so bad in America that it will become hard to even imagine or believe. That time has come, only worse than ever imagined. Joe Biden is the WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICA, A COMPLETE AND TOTAL DISASTER, » Trump posted to Truth Social. Biden mourned the attack on Wednesday, highlighting that despite the violence, « our New Orleans will never, never, never be defeated. » »New Orleans is a place unlike any other place in the world, » the president said. « It’s a city full of charm and joy. So many people around the world love New Orleans because of its history, its culture, and above all, its people. » »So I know while this person committed a terrible assault on the city, the spirit of our New Orleans will never, never, never be defeated, » he added.

New Orleans attack: Search continues for potential Bourbon Street accomplices as state AG vows death penalty

Authorities are still searching for potential accomplices to Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who drove a truck into a New Orleans crowd before being killed in a shootout with police on Wednesday.Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill told Fox News that there is evidence that Jabbar worked alongside accomplices to coordinate the attack, although she and other officials have declined to offer specifics. Jabbar’s attack killed at least 15 people and wounded dozens of others. »In Louisiana, we have the death penalty, and we will carry it out! » Murrill wrote on X.Jabbar had posted videos to social media prior to his attack expressing allegiance to the Islamic State. Derrick Van Orden targets Chip Roy over speakership vote: ‘Chip is fighting to keep his brand marketable’

As House Speaker Mike Johnson aims to retain his role, Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wisc., targeted fellow Republican Rep. Chip Roy, R-Tx., who has indicated that he is « undecided » on whether he’ll vote for Johnson.President-elect Donald Trump endorsed Johnson for the job this week, but Roy noted during an appearance on Fox Business that he does not think the speaker will have the votes needed to win during the upcoming Friday vote.Van Orden asserted in a post on X that Trump « received a mandate from the American people in November, » while Roy « did not. » »It is the America First Agenda, not the Chip Roy First Agenda. It is Make America Great Again, not make Chip Roy Great. President Trump is fighting for America, Chip is fighting to keep his brand marketable, » Van Orden claimed.WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT RACE FOR SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE »Some people apparently need to understand that in order to be a Leader, you have to learn how to follow first. I would love to work with Chip, but he needs to understand he can be part of the Team, but there is no way in hell he is the Captain. The Captain will be moving back into the White House shortly and his 1st Lieutenant is @SpeakerJohnson, » Van Orden declared in the post.Fox News Digital reached out to a Roy spokesperson to request a comment from the congressman.Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., has declared that he will not vote for Johnson to remain speaker.Roy has noted that he is « undecided » on Johnson, but is demanding change.THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO FAILING TO ELECT A HOUSE SPEAKER QUICKLY »@RepThomasMassie will not be voting for Hakeem Jefferies, as opposed to GOP who voted with Dems (more Dems than GOP each time) to spend some $3 trillion & give $61bb to Ukraine with no border security, » Roy said in a post on X. « The reason I am still undecided on the Speaker vote (as opposed to hard no) is it’s not ALL the fault of @SpeakerJohnson & my desire is to give him grace & @realDonaldTrump room to deliver on a strong agenda for which we were elected. But something MUST change, » he noted.Johnson’s path to victory is precarious, and he could be derailed if another Republican joins Massie in staunchly opposing Johnson’s bid to retain the speakership.REP. VICTORIA SPARTZ DEMANDS ‘ASSURANCES’ SPEAKER JOHNSON ‘WON’T SELL US OUT TO THE SWAMP’Fox News Senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram has explained, « The winning candidate must secure an outright majority of all Members voting for a candidate by name. »Pergram described a possible scenario in which just two Republicans could prevent Johnson from reaching the threshold necessary to win. « So let’s say there are 434 members and all vote for someone by name. The magic number is 218. If Johnson gets the votes of all 219 Republicans, he wins. If Johnson gets 218 votes, he also wins. But 217? No dice, » Pergram noted.

Lee Greenwood to release ‘beautiful’ new song partially penned by Ronald Reagan

EXCLUSIVE – Lee Greenwood and Sara Evans are releasing new songs with a surprise songwriter in the credits, the late President Ronald Reagan.Reagan may have been busy running for president of the United States back in the 1970s and finishing out his tenure as California governor, but he still made time to co-write a few patriotic songs with record producer Mike Curb, the founder and chairman of Curb Records. Curb said that he met Reagan in 1974, his last year as governor, at an event for Junior Achievement, a charity that teaches students the concepts of free enterprise. The two hit it off and Reagan asked the songwriter if he wanted to help him in his campaign for president. LEE GREENWOOD SAYS THE ‘PENDULUM WAS SWUNG,’ SENSES A CONSERVATIVE REVIVAL IN AMERICACurb credits brutal California traffic for giving him and Reagan plenty of time to write songs together in the ‘70s, starting with « Together, a New Beginning. » »And so back in the ’70s, there’s so much traffic in California that I used to travel with them, » Curb told Fox News Digital. « And on several occasions, we wrote songs together. One of them was the theme for the convention in 1980 that played. It was called, ‘Together, a New Beginning’… several of our recording artists came to the convention. It was in Detroit that year… And then that song was sung at the convention. »Reagan lost the Republican nomination to Gerald Ford in 1976, but Curb said he channeled his disappointment into writing more music. »And then, we wrote a song called « God Has a Greater Plan » after he lost the election in ’76, » Curb shared. « He was a little down and didn’t think he would run again. And I said to him, ‘God has a greater plan.’ And he said, ‘Oh, that’s what Nancy says,’ and then we wrote a song called ‘God as a Greater Plan’… And then we wrote a third song, ‘We Can Begin the World Over Again, » which was all his lyrics. » Many years later, producer Mark Joseph played it for Lee Greenwood, who decided to fix it up and change it to, « Let’s Start the World Over Again. »‘TRUMP IS A WARRIOR’: LEE GREENWOOD REFLECTS ON RNC PERFORMANCE OF ‘GOD BLESS THE USA’ IN MILWAUKEEGreenwood recalled that memorable conversation. »He said, ‘Ronald Reagan and Mike Curb tried to write a song,’ » Greenwood told Fox News Digital. « And he sent it to me, and he said, ‘It really isn’t – it was never completed.’ The idea was to make the world over, and how naive that is, but what a beautiful thought that is. » « And I knew Ronald Reagan quite well, I knew Mike Curb pretty well – I was on his label for a while, and it gave me a chance to redo the song, » Greenwood continued. « And I redid the song for them, they loved it. I recorded the version, and it should be released shortly on their aftermarket album from the ‘Reagan’ film. »Greenwood wrote the new song, but said he kept some specific lyrics, including the phrase « beacon of freedom. » The « Proud to Be an American » singer told The Tennessean that he blended Reagan’s « altruism » and Curb’s « visionary » tendencies alongside a desire to reframe the song as being specifically tied to his awareness of Reagan’s legacy and the many conversations they had about « how much he believed in the United States as the greatest symbol in the world for freedom. »DENNIS QUAID THRILLS LOCALS IN DIXON, ILL., FOR ‘REAGAN’ PREMIERE, SAYS HOLLYWOOD ‘FORGOT’ ABOUT SMALL TOWNS »These songs remind many generations of what (we fondly) recall of the ‘good old days’ in American society, » Curb said of the song. « In honestly reflecting what Reagan was at his core as an entertainer and centrist-focused, responsible, good and fair human being who was easy to get along with. »Asked if he was surprised by Reagan’s songwriting skills, Curb pointed out that before Reagan went into politics, he spent years as a Hollywood star. In the course of his career, Reagan acted or starred in over 50 movies. He was the subject of the 2024 biopic « Reagan, » with Dennis Quaid portraying the 40th president. »He was an amazing guy, » Curb said. « Because, you know, when you’re sitting in the back seat with him, it was like you were sitting with your next-door neighbor. Very down to Earth. I think all my friends, whether they’re Republicans or Democrats, they kind of look back at Reagan as the good old days. » »Start the World Over Again » will be released soon, while country singer Sara Evans is expected to release her recording of « God Has a Greater Plan. »Fox News Digital’s Hannah Lambert contributed to this report.

‘I’m a psychologist — here’s how to finally break your bad habits’

More than a third of Americans report making New Year’s resolutions, statistics show, many of which are focused on kicking bad habits.Whether it’s smoking, overeating, drinking excessive alcohol or « doom-scrolling » on social media instead of sleeping, 72% of U.S. adults report having at least one unhealthy behavior, according to data from the United Health Foundation.Dr. Adi Jaffe, a California-based psychologist, knows firsthand the dangers of unhealthy habits, as he once struggled with drug addiction himself.CDC WARNS OF DEADLY DRUG 100 TIMES MORE POTENT THAN FENTANYL, OVERDOSES SPIKE IN PAST YEAR »I got trapped in the world of drugs and alcohol, from the middle of high school until a few years after college, » he shared with Fox News Digital during an on-camera interview. »Addiction doesn’t separate by gender or age or race or income — people from all walks of life are impacted. »Jaffe ultimately spent time in jail before getting clean and returning to school, earning two master’s degrees and a PhD in psychology. »I wanted to understand what happened to me — and then what I’ve done over the last 15 years, hopefully, is bring those lessons to others who are struggling. »Today, Jaffe focuses on helping people beat addiction and improve their mental health. In his upcoming book — « Unhooked: Free Yourself from Addiction Forever » — he shares a step-by-step program to help people free themselves from harmful habits.Jaffe shared with Fox News Digital some of his tips and insights. While many people think of addiction as involving drugs or alcohol, Jaffe noted that it can take many forms. »If you engage in a behavior of any sort over long periods of time that robs you of your ability to be fully present in your life — and it bothers you, but you can’t find yourself stopping it, even though you’ve tried over and over — to me, that qualifies, » he said.In addiction to substance abuse, addictive behaviors might include « doom-scrolling » on your phone for hours a day, binge-eating, gambling or indulging in other unhealthy activities.SEVERE HEALTH RISKS OF VAPING AND E-CIGARETTES, ESPECIALLY FOR YOUTH, SAY EXPERTSPeople can be addicted to work and success, too, Jaffe noted. »When things get hard and get tough, they want to go to work, » he said. « They believe success or performance will make them feel better, but it can cause damage just like other addictions. »Social media is another form of addiction, the expert said. »When your phone buzzes or pings, you don’t know what’s there, so it’s a novelty that’s interesting, and it releases dopamine, » he said. « You almost literally cannot help yourself. »Many people assume that the behavior itself is the problem, Jaffe said — but there is almost always an underlying reason for those unhealthy or harmful choices. »The reason you do it is that at some point earlier in your life, there was pain or struggle or emotional discomfort, » he said. « And you discovered that when you engaged in the behavior, that discomfort went away. So the behavior was actually a medicine of sorts for a problematic undercurrent. »For Jaffe, when he was 14 or 15 years old, his « hook » was social anxiety. »And when somebody handed me a bottle of vodka at some sleepaway camp, I drank it because I didn’t want to look awkward, » he told Fox News Digital. « Once I started drinking, I had no anxiety and felt like I belonged. I felt like I could talk to people. And so I realized that alcohol had ‘solved’ this problem. »Everyone has different hooks, Jaffe said, but there are similarities and patterns. »We start living our lives trying to escape the discomfort of the hooks. »Once people have identified an unhealthy behavior, one of the biggest mistakes they make is just trying to stop it without a plan, according to Jaffe.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER »We try to stop ourselves from doing what we don’t like, » he noted. « Especially around New Year’s, people might say, ‘I’m going to stop eating bad foods or I’m going to stop being lazy,’ » he said.Research has shown, however, that the most important aspect of kicking a bad habit is to replace the negative behavior with a positive one, the psychologist noted. »We have to stop trying to just eliminate bad habits — it doesn’t work, » Jaffe said. « We have to replace them with something else. »For example, if someone wants to quit smoking, they might keep gum or sunflower seeds in their pocket, he said.Or, if someone is too focused on work, that might mean letting go of some tasks and delegating them to other people.Jaffe also emphasized that the process of kicking a bad habit isn’t always perfect or seamless, and that slipping up from time to time doesn’t equate to failure. For more Health articles, visit www.foxnews.com/health »It’s okay to fall flat on your face a number of times while you’re working on changing this, » he said. « You just have to keep going. »Jaffe’s book, « Unhooked: Free Yourself from Addiction Forever, » will be available on Jan. 7.

Saquon Barkley and family react to Eagles sitting him with chance to break NFL rushing record

Saquon Barkley addressed his team’s decision to rest him in the last game of the season, causing him to miss out on a chance to break the NFL single-season rushing record. The Philadelphia Eagles star told reporters on Wednesday that he was « down, » amid a chance to break the league rushing record against his former team, the New York Giants. Barkley said that he talked with Head Coach Nick Sirianni about the decision after last Sunday’s win against the Dallas Cowboys, and wasn’t as eager about it then, but became more invested in breaking the record after sleeping on it. Now, he won’t get that opportunity and isn’t sure if he ever will again. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM »He asked me if I wanted to play if I wanted to go for it, I said, on Sunday, I probably didn’t care too much for it. When I slept on it it was like, it’s an opportunity to implant my name in football history. I may never get another opportunity like that again. So I’m down. But in the end of the day, I don’t care if we’re putting the team at risk, » Barkley said, in footage obtained by 94 WIP sideline reporter Devan Kaney. Barkley said he also told his family about the situation, and they wanted him to break the record even more than he does. « I told my family, obviously. My family probably wanted it a little bit more than me, » Barkley said. Saquon Barkley won’t play vs. Giants, sacrificing chance to break NFL rushing record

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to turn down the chance to let Saquon Barkley break the NFL’s single-season rushing record. Head coach Nick Sirianni told reporters on Wednesday that the team will be resting several key players in their season finale against the New York Giants — Barkley’s former team. The Eagles are already locked into the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NFC playoffs and have nothing to gain with a win.Barkley, with 2,005 rushing yards this year, is 100 shy of Eric Dickerson’s record for the most rushing yards in a single season. But the team will opt to prevent risk of injury instead of going for the milestone.Sirianni said he talked with Barkley, in his first season with the Eagles after six years with the Giants, about his decision. »I think it’s pretty obvious how special this guy is, » Sirianni said.Sirianni had said he planned to speak to everyone, including players, coaches, general manager Howie Roseman and owner Jeffrey Lurie before making his decision. The Eagles had their bye week in Week 5, and returned from a 2-2 start to win 10 straight games and seize control of the division. But 12 straight games — where Barkley added to his NFL-high 345 carries — also played a role in Sirianni giving the starters one week off before the Eagles open the playoffs at home. »It wasn’t the easiest decision to go through, » Sirianni said. « We have great people in this building and had a lot of input from a lot of different people, players included. »Barkley has also said he would prioritize the team’s success over breaking the record. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM »I came here to do something special, and obviously breaking the record is special, » Barkley said after the Eagles clinched the division. « But I want a banner up there. I think we all do. But we gave ourselves a chance with that and clinched the playoffs before and now with the division. »Barkley should have plenty of company among the starting lineup against the Giants. Hurts was still in the NFL’s concussion protocol on Wednesday and could not practice or play until he was cleared.Kenny Pickett started for the Eagles last week and ran and threw for a touchdown before he left with injured ribs. Tanner McKee, the third-string QB, threw a pair of touchdown passes as he put the finishing touches on a rout of the Cowboys. »At the end of the day, I had to make the decision on what I felt was best, » Sirianni said. After he ran for 167 yards in Sunday’s win against Dallas — the 27-year-old Barkley said, he wanted the record, but he would do what was best for the team, even if that meant sitting out the last game of the regular season. »Rest, I’m fine with that too, because I didn’t come here and sign here just to rush for 2,000 or break a record, » Barkley said Sunday. « I want to do something special, meaning special with the team. »NFL TEAMS DOING ‘EXTENSIVE HOMEWORK’ ON JON GRUDEN SINCE CONTROVERSIAL EMAILS AS OFFSEASON APPROACHES: REPORTBarkley signed a three-year deal with the Eagles for $26 million guaranteed and $37.75 million overall, making him the highest-paid running back in franchise history. The decision also ends that hand-wringing that Barkley would have set the record in an extra 17th game that Dickerson did not have in 1984.In 1984, Dickerson topped 100 yards rushing 12 times to break O.J. Simpson’s 1973 record with Buffalo of 2,003 yards rushing in a single season. Dickerson needed 379 carries to set the record, while Barkley had 345 carries this season.Meanwhile, the Giants will be going into Sunday’s game with even less to play for than the Eagles, but much more to lose in terms of draft positioning with a win.The Giants were in sole possession of the worst record in the NFL, and the No. 1 overall pick, prior to last week’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. But with a 45-33 win at home over Indianapolis, the Giants have fallen to the fourth overall pick. A win over the Eagles’ backups would drop the Giants even further in the draft order, as they could fall as far as No. 9 overall. The Associated Press contributed to this report. And I love it here, » Griffin said.Despite Griffin’s claims, Trump has not spoken about setting up internment camps, though the Harris campaign accused him of doing so in election ads.Still, Griffin defended her devotion to the country, citing her performances for soldiers in Uzbekistan, Iraq and Afghanistan. »Don’t tell me I’m not a patriot, darn it, » Griffin said.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREGriffin has faced backlash over her infamous « beheaded Trump » photo – which showed her holding a fake severed, bloodied head made to resemble Trump – and eventually faced a Secret Service investigation for conspiracy to murder the then-president. Louisiana attorney general says Sugar Bowl should be delayed to Friday after attack prompts postponement

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill weighed in on the postponement of the Sugar Bowl game after a deadly attack in New Orleans on Wednesday.Murrill told NBC News that she believes the game should be postponed to Friday. The game has been pushed back just one day to Thursday afternoon so far. « Not my decision, but I would like to see it delayed at least another day. If they asked my opinion, I would tell them that, » Murrill said. « I think that it was wise to delay it at least a day. This is an active crime scene, and they just finished removing some of the bodies, and they still haven’t removed all of them. I still think we need to wait an extra day. »Murrill added that she believes the community is « safe, » regardless. The number of victims killed in the Bourbon Street attack has risen to 15, Fox News has learned.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe game is currently set to be played less than 24 hours later than its initial start time, despite the attack. The Allstate Sugar Bowl organization announced that the game will start at 3 p.m. local time (4 p.m. ET) on Thursday. The game was initially set to kick off on 8:45 p.m. ET on Wednesday night, and earlier reports indicated the game would be postponed 24 hours. The Superdome is located just a mile away from the site of Wednesday morning’s deadly attack. Georgia and Notre Dame arrived in New Orleans on Sunday and were reportedly staying in hotels just blocks away from the crime scene. According to reports, both schools implemented a « shelter in place » order for their teams. According to a statement from the FBI, a man driving a Ford pickup truck drove into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street at around 3:15 a.m. local time. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, exchanged gunfire with local law enforcement before being pronounced dead at the scene. The FBI is currently working to determine « the subject’s potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations, » after an ISIS flag was found in the truck. Weapons and a potential IED were located inside the suspect’s vehicle, and other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter. New Orleans FBI’s Alethea Duncan noted during a press conference on Wednesday that the FBI does not believe that Din Jabbar was « solely responsible » for the act. NOTRE DAME CALLS ON FANS TO ‘JOIN US IN PRAYER’ FOLLOWING APPARENT TERROR ATTACK AHEAD OF SUGAR BOWLThe decision to postpone the game just one day after the attack prompted mixed responses from fans and pundits on social media. Conservative commentator John Ziegler also expressed disagreement with the postponement in a post on X. »This is wrong. Postponing the Sugar Bowl one day will not do anything to bring back those who lost their lives, or make the game any safer. In fact, [it] gives the terrorists exactly what they wanted. We have become SO soft as a society in nearly every way, » Ziegler wrote. « The ‘you can never be too safe’ people seem to pretend that there are no residential costs for postponing an event of the magnitude of the Sugar Bowl. Tens of thousands of people have traveled to New Orleans with no hotel for tomorrow night, or flight reservations for Friday. »Meanwhile, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy disagreed with those who have criticized postponing the game, insinuating that those people are « idiots. » « Ok so it is postponed. And the people saying moving it 24 hours lets the terrorist win are idiots. It’s [one] day. Secure the area. Do what ya gotta do. Delaying a game 24 hours isn’t letting them win, » Portnoy wrote on X.Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley released a statement sending thoughts and prayers to all the victims of the attack, while thanking those who have accommodated the new start time. « Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families as we work through this, » said Jeff Hundley, the chief executive officer of the Allstate Sugar Bowl. « We have full faith and confidence in the governor and the mayor and all the federal, state, and local first-responders that they’ve applied to this horrific event. Any time we have an event like the Sugar Bowl, public safety is paramount, and all parties involved agree that could only be achieved with a postponement. Now we will move ahead to take care of the details to make the Sugar Bowl the first-class, fun, and safe event that it has been for over 90 years. »
« On behalf of the College Football Playoff, we are devastated by this morning’s attack, and our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragedy, » said Rich Clark, the executive director of the College Football Playoff. « We are grateful to the leadership of the Sugar Bowl, New Orleans, the State of Louisiana and federal authorities as we work together to ensure we can provide a safe environment for everyone. We are also appreciative of ESPN’s flexibility in moving the game to tomorrow afternoon. »Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Aaron Rodgers says Jets’ season finale vs. Dolphins could be his last NFL game

Aaron Rodgers acknowledged that Sunday’s game could be the last time he plays in the NFL. Rodgers was questioned by reporters whether the New York Jets’ season finale against the Miami Dolphins could be the last of his career, on Wednesday. « Yeah, of course, » Rodgers answered. Rodgers hasn’t made any final decision yet, but he says he will make one before the start of free agency in March. Rodgers is under contract with the Jets for next season, and is set to count for a $23 million cap hit. However, the Jets are also set to hire a new head coach and general manager in the offseason after Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas, the regime that brought Rodgers to New York, were fired mid-season. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM »I’m just more resigned to the reality of the situation, » Rodgers admitted regarding the stakes of Sunday’s game. « I think there’s going to be change here, and if I’m [not] a part of the change, then I just want to make sure everybody knows I have nothing but gratitude for my time here. »He added that he expects the new coach and general manager that are put in charge will make a quick decision regarding his future with the team. »I don’t think we’re even going to get that far, » Rodgers said. « There’s going to be regime change here, at least with GM. Whatever they end up doing, I’m sure I’ll either get a call or have a conversation and go from there. »Rodgers missed nearly his entire first season with the Jets last year after he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury on the opening drive of the Jets’ Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills. This year, despite a full healthy season out of Rodgers, the Jets have gone 4-12. JAGUARS FAN HAS MESSAGE FOR OWNER SHAD KHAN AMID DISMAL 2024 SEASON »I’m disappointed about the performance both myself and as a team but I’m really thankful for the opportunity. If I feel good coming back and they want to make another run at this, that would be fantastic, but I’m not naïve to the situation we’re in. »The season has been physically taxing on Rodgers as well. After he was sacked four times against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, he became the most sacked quarterback in NFL history. He has been sacked 568 times in 247 career games – three more than Tom Brady, who was sacked 565 times in his career. Russell Wilson is right there as well with 556 sacks. The Jets quarterback has been sacked 37 times this season. He led the league twice in times sacked in his career – both when he was with the Green Bay Packers.Still, Rodgers considers his last two years in New York the best of his life. « I mean gratitude, honestly. It’s been the best two years of my life, » Rodgers said. « That’s a perspective adjustment that happened at some point during the rehab process last year. Just the excitement, falling back in love with the game, getting to know these guys in here, getting to know the great men and women that work here. It’s been a lot of fun. Obviously, on the field has been short of expectations, no doubt. This game is more than just that. This game is about the relationships. »Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

The Speaker’s Lobby: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to electing a House Speaker

The Constitution dictates that the 119th Congress begins at noon et on Friday. And the first order of business in the House is to elect the Constitutional officer for the legislative branch of government: Speaker of the House.Only the House votes for Speaker. And the House can’t do anything – I’ll repeat that, anything – until it chooses a Speaker. It can’t swear-in Members until the House taps a Speaker and he or she is sworn-in. The Speaker then swears-in the rest of the body, en masse. Then the House must adopt a rules package to govern daily operations. Only then can the House go about debating bills, voting and constructing committees for hearings. HEALTHY LIVING, PARTY UNITY, ‘SMELLING THE ROSES’: CAPITOL HILL’S NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONSIf the House fails to elect a Speaker on the first ballot, it must proceed to a second ballot. And on and on. Consider for a moment that the House had never even taken a second vote for Speaker in a century before the donnybrook two years ago. It took four ballots to re-elect late House Speaker Frederick Gillett, R-Mass., in 1923. What is past is prologue for the House. Consider how the House consumed 15 rounds spread out over five days before electing former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., in January, 2023. The Speakership remained vacant – and thus, the House frozen – for 22 days after Republicans dumped McCarthy nine months later. House Republicans then tapped House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., for Speaker. Scalise withdrew his name before there was even a floor vote. House GOPers then tapped Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, to become Speaker. But Jordan lost three consecutive votes for Speaker on the House floor, bleeding support on each ballot. House Republicans then anointed House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., for Speaker. Emmer withdrew hours later. House Republicans finally nominated House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., for the job. The Louisiana Republican won on the floor. But some conservatives have been disappointed in Johnson ever since. They’ve flagged how he handled multiple, interim spending bills from last November on. They didn’t like that he allowed a bill on the floor to aid Ukraine. They opposed him doing yet another interim spending bill in September. They really didn’t like how he worked with Democrats on major, must-do pieces of legislation. And then there was the misstep of the staggering, 1,500-page interim spending package which Mr. Trump and Elon Musk pulverized from afar in December. Johnson then did President-elect Trump’s bidding with another spending package – which included a debt ceiling increase. But 38 House Republicans bolted on that bill. So Johnson’s tenure has been bumpy. And that’s why he’s on the hook come Friday afternoon during the vote for Speaker. Everyone on Capitol Hill is on tenterhooks when it comes to wrapping this up expeditiously. Here’s what will happen Friday at noon: REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN CALLS ON INCOMING ADMINISTRATION TO TARGET ‘THE AXIS OF AGGRESSORS’Acting House Clerk Kevin McCumber will preside until the House elects a Speaker. The first order of business is a « call of the House. » That’s where the House establishes how many of its Members-elect are there, simply voting « present. » The House should clock in at 434 members: 219 Republicans and 215 Democrats. There should be one vacancy. Former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., resigned in the fall – and said he did not « intend » to serve in the new Congress, despite having won reelection. Watch to see if there are absences in that call of the House. Fox is told that Democrats who have struggled with health issues of late – including Reps. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., Dwight Evans, D-Penn., and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will likely be there. But the Speaker’s election is about the math. How many lawmakers report to the House chamber will dictate margins in the Speaker’s vote. Then it’s on to nominating speeches. Incoming House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain, R-Mich., will nominate Johnson for Speaker. House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., will nominate House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y. Anyone else can then place someone’s name in nomination. Then, the House calls the roll of Members-elect alphabetically. Each Member rises and verbally responds, calling out their choice by name. Reps. Alma Adams, D-N.C., Robert Aderholt, R-Ala., and the aforementioned Aguilar are the first names out of the block. But lawmakers can vote for anyone they want. That includes persons who aren’t House Members. That’s why there have been votes cast over the years for the late Gen. Colin Powell, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., former Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., and former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker. This is what Johnson – or anyone else must do – to win the Speakership:The winning candidate must secure an outright majority of all Members voting for a candidate by name. So let’s say there are 434 members and all vote for someone by name. The magic number is 218. If Johnson gets the votes of all 219 Republicans, he wins. If Johnson gets 218 votes, he also wins. But 217? No dice. Under those circumstances Johnson would have prospectively outpolled Jeffries, 217-215 – with two votes going to other candidates. But the « most votes » doesn’t win. 217 is not an outright majority of House Members voting for someone by name. The House must take ANOTHER ballot to elect a Speaker. Fox is told there are anywhere from 12 to 17 Republicans who could vote for someone besides Johnson. And some Republicans are being cagey about their votes. BERNIE SANDERS PLANS TO SPEARHEAD LEGISLATION ON KEY TRUMP PROPOSALHere’s something to watch: Members who vote « present. »Rather than voting for someone besides Johnson, some Republicans may protest by simply voting « present. » A « present » vote does not count against Johnson. So let’s do some hypothetical math here:Let’s say 434 Members cast ballots. Jeffries secures support from all 215 Democrats. Three Republicans vote « present. » In other words, not voting for any candidate by name. Johnson scores 216 votes. He has the most votes. But more importantly, only 431 Members voted for someone by name. 216 is an outright majority of 431. 434 doesn’t matter under these circumstances. So Johnson becomes Speaker. But there is serious danger in too many Republicans voting « present. » Consider this scenario: All 215 Democrats vote for Jeffries. But five Republicans vote « present. » Johnson records 214 votes. 429 Members cast ballots for someone by name. The magic number here is 215. Guess who’s Speaker? Jeffries. He marshalled an outright majority of all Members voting for a candidate by name.As they say in the movies, « You play a very dangerous game, Mr. Bond. »With such a thin margin in the House, Republicans are absolutely tinkering with fire if they get too cute by half. Yes. Some conservatives might not want to re-elect Johnson as Speaker. But they certainly don’t want Jeffries. So it’s hard to say what happens on Friday afternoon. If the House dithers too long, this could delay the certification of the Electoral College vote on Monday. The House and Senate must meet in a Joint Session of Congress on January 6 to certify the election results. No House Speaker? No Joint Session. But something else will likely unfold if this drags on. Johnson loyalists and mainstream Republicans have had it with right-wing ideologues, the Freedom Caucus and other freelancers. Expect a full-on brawl between those two factions if Republicans struggle to elect a Speaker. And as we wrote earlier, what is past is prologue. A protracted battle over the Speakership serves as prologue to the looming, internecine fights among Republicans when it comes to governing. That’s to say nothing of implementing a solitary plank of President-elect Trump’s agenda.

Las Vegas police say Cybertruck that exploded at Trump hotel had fuel containers, large firework mortars

A Tesla Cybertruck that exploded in front of Trump International Hotel Las Vegas, killing one person and injuring seven others, contained gasoline and camp fuel containers, as well as large firework mortars, according to authorities.Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill said during a press conference on Wednesday that investigators know who rented the Cybertruck, which was acquired in Colorado, though they are not prepared to identify that person without 100% certainty.McMahill also said investigators were able to trace the truck through Tesla charging stations. License plate readers in Las Vegas first detected the vehicle at about 7:30 a.m., and McMahill said it traveled up and down Las Vegas Boulevard before pulling into the Trump hotel valet area.Within 15-20 seconds of pulling up to the hotel, the sheriff added, the vehicle exploded.1 DEAD, 7 INJURED AFTER TESLA CYBERTRUCK EXPLOSING OUTSIDE TRUMP HOTEL IN LAS VEGAS: POLICEDuring the press conference, the sheriff showed a video of the truck bed, which showed it was filled with gasoline canisters, camp fuel canisters and large firework mortars. But the sheriff also pointed to the exterior of the truck and how it was still completely intact after the explosion. »The fact that this was a Cybertruck, really limited the damage that occurred inside of the valet because it had most of the blast go up through the truck and out, » McMahill said. « In fact, if you look on that video, you’ll see that the front glass doors at the Trump hotel were not even broken by the blast. »WRONG-WAY DRIVER IN CRASH THAT KILLED VEGAS POLICE OFFICER WAS IN US ILLEGALLY: ICEWhile the blast did not damage the glass doors, seven individuals sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. As for all the guests at the hotel, they were taken in by another hotel as the investigation into the explosion continues.Like McMahill, Jeremy Schwartz, the FBI acting special agent in charge in Las Vegas, would not identify the person inside the vehicle, saying, « Our number one goal is to ensure that we have proper identification of the subject involved in the incident. »The second objective, Schwartz said, was to determine whether the explosion was an act of terrorism, which is being investigated by a joint terrorism task force.SUSPECT ACCUSED OF BURNING WOMAN TO DEATH ON NYC SUBWAY IS PREVIOUSLY DEPORTED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTThe special agent said the task force is made up of law enforcement officials from the area. »We’re not doing anything along, and we wouldn’t do anything alone without our partners making sure that we’re all in lockstep, » Schwartz said. « We’ve learned from mistakes in the past, and we’re not going to do that again. »The Cybertruck explosion was the second suspicious deadly incident in a major city since the start of 2025.OFFICIALS POSTPONE SUGAR BOWL IN THE WAKE OF APPARENT TERROR ATTACK ON BOURBON STREETEarly Wednesday morning, a man later identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, drove a pickup truck into a crowd on the famed Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing over a dozen people, and injuring dozens more. The truck Din Jabbar drove was rented from the peer-to-peer car rental company Turo, as was the Cybertruck that burst into flames in Las Vegas. Din Jabbar’s rented vehicle also donned an ISIS flag on its trailer hitch.Schwartz said the FBI believes the explosion in Las Vegas was an isolated incident.SUSPECT IDENTIFIED AS FBI INVESTIGATES ACT OF TERRORISM AFTER BOURBON STREET ATTACK »We do not believe that there’s a bunch of folks out there supporting this or helping this, and we don’t believe that there’s any other danger to the community right now, » he said, reassuring the community that over the next few hours and days, they will do what they can to get to the bottom of the incident.McMahill said he did not know whether the two were connected but would not rule it out. He also said the Cybertruck did not have an ISIS flag like the truck in New Orleans, but every aspect is being investigated. The preliminary investigation to this point involved input from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who McMahill said gave quite a bit of information about how the vehicle was locked after it exploded because of the force from the explosion.Musk also helped when it came to capturing surveillance footage from Tesla charging stations across the country.WHO IS SHAMSUD DIN JABBAR? WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT THE NEW ORLEANS NEW YEARS’ TERRORIST SUSPECTThe billionaire kept followers up to date about the Cybertruck explosion on his social media platform X. »We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion, » Musk wrote in one post. »The evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack. Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards, » he said in another post. « Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken. »President Biden also weighed in on the Las Vegas explosion. »We’re tracking the explosion of a Cybertruck outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, » he said while speaking about the fatal crash in New Orleans. « Law enforcement and the intelligence community are investigating this as well, including whether there’s any possible connection with the attack in New Orleans. Thus far, there’s nothing to report on that score at this time. »

Saquon Barkley and family not happy about Eagles sitting him with chance to break NFL rushing record

Saquon Barkley addressed his team’s decision to rest him in the last game of the season, causing him to miss out on a chance to break the NFL single-season rushing record. The Philadelphia Eagles star told reporters on Wednesday that he is « down » about head coach Nick Sirianni’s decision to keep him out of the game against the New York Giants on Sunday. Barkley said that he talked with Siranni about the decision after last Sunday’s win against the Dallas Cowboys, and wasn’t as eager about it then, but became more invested in breaking the record after sleeping on it. Now, he won’t get that opportunity and isn’t sure if he ever will again. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM »He asked me if I wanted to play if I wanted to go for, I said, on Sunday, I probably didn’t care too much for it. When I slept on it it was like, it’s an opportunity to implant my name in football history. I may never get another opportunity like that again. So I’m down, but in the end of the day, I don’t care if we’re putting the team at risk, » Barkley said.Barkley said he also told his family about the situation, and they wanted him to break the record even more than he does. « I told my family, obviously. My family probably wanted it a little bit more than me, » Barkley said.
