  • Musk’s DOGE takes aim at ‘viper’s nest’ federal agency with global footprint

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is led by tech billionaire Elon Musk, is taking aim at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and, according to senior congressional sources, moved to seize control of the independent agency over the weekend.

The senior congressional sources told Fox News that more than 50 senior USAID staff members were placed on administrative leave and subjected to a gag order, meaning they were not allowed to communicate with anyone outside the agency without approval.

Signs were also removed from USAID’s headquarters in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C., and the DOGE team took over the computer systems, the sources said. USAID is responsible for distributing civilian foreign aid and development assistance to countries around the globe.

The agency managed approximately $40 billion in appropriations last year, according to the Congressional Research Service.

RUBIO PAUSES FOREIGN AID FROM STATE DEPARTMENT AND USAID TO ENSURE IT PUTS ‘AMERICA FIRST’

President Donald Trump complimented Musk’s decision-making on Sunday during a quick interaction with reporters on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews. When asked if he felt Musk was « delivering on his promises, » the president responded with much praise.

« I do think Elon is doing a good job, » Trump said. « He’s a big cost cutter. Sometimes we won’t agree with it and will not go where he wants to go, but I think he’s doing a great job. He’s a smart guy, very smart, and he’s very much into cutting the budget of our federal government. »

On Sunday, The Associated Press reported that the Trump administration placed two top security chiefs at USAID on leave after refusing to turn over classified material in restricted areas to DOGE.

After initially being refused access to USAID’s classified information, DOGE gained that access on Saturday, allowing them to see things like intelligence reports, a current and a former U.S. official told the AP.

The DOGE team members lacked high enough security clearance to access the information, so the two USAID security officials – John Voorhees and deputy Brian McGill – believed they were legally obligated to deny access.

On Sunday, Musk took aim at USAID on his social media platform X, writing, « USAID is a criminal organization. Time for it to die. »

AFTER RAUCOUS FIRST WEEK IN OFFICE, DONALD TRUMP TO KEEP HIS FOOT ON THE GAS

He also wrote several other posts about the agency, saying things like, « USAID was a viper’s nest of radical-left Marxists who hate America » and « USAID is evil. »

The latter was in response to a post suggesting USAID helped fund coronavirus research in Wuhan, China, which referred to an interaction posted on Forbes between Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and now former USAID Administrator Samantha Power in April 2023.

Trump echoed Musk’s posts by saying USAID has been run by « a bunch of radical lunatics » and his administration is « getting them out. »

ABC News reported that those familiar with USAID were questioning whether the moves at USAID were being made in an effort to move the agency under the State Department, where there could be better accountability.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION NEEDS MORE PLANES TO CARRY OUT DEPORTATIONS: REPORT

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., turned to social media on Sunday to sound off on the « dismantling » of USAID.

« Trump and Musk are recklessly and illegally dismantling USAID, an essential national security agency that saves lives, advances U.S. interests, and promotes peace, » Booker wrote. « Their malicious actions are putting the health of people, especially children, at grave risk, and will surely lead to future public health and migration crises in the U.S. – let alone suffering around the globe. »

Last week, at least 56 USAID officials were placed on administrative leave with full pay and benefits, and several hundred contractors based in Washington and elsewhere were laid off.

The actions came after Secretary of State Marco Rubio, acting on Trump’s executive order, paused all U.S. foreign assistance funded by or through the State Department and USAID.

The 90-day pause has halted thousands of U.S.-funded humanitarian, development and security programs worldwide and forced aid organizations to lay off hundreds of employees because they can’t make payroll.

  • Arkansas nurse charged with using dead patient’s name in attempt to purchase hundreds of oxycodone pills

A nurse in Arkansas is facing felony charges after allegedly using a dead man’s name when attempting to purchase oxycodone pills at pharmacies.

Caitlin Carol Adams was charged with three counts of fraud or deceit to procure a narcotic drug-forged prescription in connection with multiple drug purchases last month, according to KAIT.

Adams is accused of using a fake prescription to purchase 120 oxycodone pills at a pharmacy in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Jan. 2, the outlet reported.

She claimed she worked at a nursing home and that the pills were for a patient.

Investigators said Adams, who is a licensed registered nurse according to the Arkansas State Board of Nursing, used a credit card with her name on it to buy the pills.

« After looking into the prescription, an employee of the pharmacy contacted the nursing home in question, and they stated that Caitlin Adams was fired on Jan. 1, » investigators said in the affidavit, KAIT reported.

Adams returned to the same pharmacy on Jan. 6 with another prescription for 180 oxycodone pills, according to investigators.

The prescription was under a man’s name who was later determined to have been a patient at the same nursing home where Adams previously worked, the affidavit said.

The man whose name was on the prescription had also been dead since Dec. 30.

The pharmacy refused to fill the prescription for Adams.

  • ‘Facts of Life’ star Nancy McKeon said ‘there was a lot’ of scrutiny over cast’s weight

« Facts of Life » star Nancy McKeon is opening up about the scrutiny she and her castmates experienced over their weight.

McKeon told the New York Post in a recent interview « there was a lot » of talk about the weight of the cast, including Lisa Whelchel, Kim Fields and Mindy Cohn.

She didn’t specify what was said but told the outlet, « Each one of us had to deal with things in our own way. »

The 58-year-old added that it was strange for the cast’s weight to be « made a thing » because the show was famous for dealing with teen issues, including eating disorders.

‘FACTS OF LIFE’ STAR SAYS REBOOT SABOTAGED BY ‘GREEDY B—-‘

« When you think about the fact you’re recording somebody’s puberty from 14 to their early 20s, that period, there’s so much development, there’s so many things that you’re going through, it’s quite curious looking back, how would you not go through all the things that everybody in life has gone through? »

While she didn’t appreciate it, McKeon acknowledged it’s an unfortunate part of the entertainment industry.

« That’s why it’s called show business, it’s a business, and they wanted what they wanted. But we’re also human beings and the fact is everybody comes in all shapes and sizes and everybody needs to be represented. »

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

She added, « There is no one ideal [body]. There should be an embrace of every body. »

McKeon’s co-star, Lisa Whelchel, also spoke about the pressures she faced playing the pretty, wealthy but a bit snobby Blair on the series.

In 2023, Whelchel told People Magazine she was sent to a « fat farm » during filming breaks after she gained weight.

« Obviously, we’re in a different time, » she told the outlet. « We’ve learned a lot. We’re a lot more body positive right now, which I’m grateful for. I mean, it’s still an issue. »

« But certainly as a teenager, [that] was a lot, » she continued.

And like McKeon, she’s accepted it was a regrettable part of the line of work she chose.

« Though even back then, I understood it’s a business. They hired me to play a certain character that looked a certain way, » she said. « And it was also really, really hard because I was going through puberty and my parents were going through a divorce, and I was living in California and they were in Texas, so there was emotional eating involved. All the things that are not atypical of teenage girls. »

« But I think everybody was doing the best they could back then. And as Maya Angelou said: ‘When you know better, you do better,’ » Whelchel told the outlet.

  • 55 victims in Washington, DC midair collision pulled from Potomac River as recovery operation continues

Officials in Washington, D.C., identified 55 bodies pulled from the Potomac River during a strenuous multi-day recovery operation following the midair collision between a commercial plane and a Black Hawk helicopter last week.

D.C. Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly, Sr. told reporters on Sunday that the remains of 55 of the 67 victims of the aircraft collision have been identified. The only injury that Donnelly reported was a first responder who developed hypothermia while searching in the freezing cold water, but the person later recovered.

Officials also said they plan to start lifting the debris out of the Potomac River on Monday. Col. Francis Pera from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers said he anticipates « a successful lift » on Monday morning, later adding that they will cover the wreckage with a tent to protect any human remains.

« We do have a process where we will be watching the lift as it happens, » Pera explained. « And then if there are remains in there, that will not move while we’re recovering the wreckage. We will bring that wreckage to the surface of the barge. Our process [is] to immediately tent the barge to make sure that we have full discretion. »

HARROWING VIDEO FROM MILITARY BASE SHOWS NEW ANGLE OF MIDAIR CRASH CATASTROPHE

Officials have been at the debris site in the river since shortly after the collision between a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and a Bombardier CRJ700 airliner operating under PSA Airlines, a subsidiary of American Airlines.

The plane’s flight data recorder indicated that it was struck at 325 feet by the helicopter on Wednesday night, and that prior to impact, there was a change in the aircraft’s pitch, according to preliminary information released on Saturday.

« Currently, the CRJ (plane) based on the data recorder at the time of impact was 325 feet, plus or minus 25 feet, » National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) member Todd Inman said at a Saturday news conference. « And for those who follow this closely, that is a corrected altitude. »

« I can tell you at one point, very close to the impact, there was a slight change in pitch, an increase in pitch, » he added later, when asked whether the plane pulled up.

While air traffic control data had the plane’s altitude at 200 feet at impact, Inman said they « have not finalized that and need to get more granularity to it, » and that data from the Black Hawk’s recorder is also needed to answer for the apparent 100-foot difference in altitude.

VICTIMS IDENTIFIED IN DC PLANE CRASH INVOLVING AMERICAN AIRLINES JET AND MILITARY HELICOPTER

« Whenever we have the data from the recorder, we will be able to give you a more specific answer, » Inman said.

Jake Crockett, a firefighter and diver with the Scuba Rescue Team of Chesterfield Fire & EMS, told Fox News Digital last week that the recovery operation is « incredibly unusual. »

« We’re trained and always ready to answer the call…when the dive call comes in, but that’s typically involving one victim. And, in rare occasions, a couple of victims, » Crockett explained.

« But something of this magnitude, you know, having 67 people to account for, along with two aircraft and all the debris is just it’s incredibly out of the ordinary. It’s something that, no doubt, none of them nor myself could have predicted. »

The firefighter also noted that the Potomac River poses challenges related to temperature and water visibility.

« It’s going to be zero visibility or close to zero is that they’ll be diving in, and so looking for small parts of an aircraft in that kind of visibility is going to be extremely challenging, » Crockett explained. « The waters here and the lakes and ponds and rivers…when you go in, it’s just dark. »

Fox News Digital’s Mollie Markowitz contributed to this report.

  • Panama pledges to end key canal deal with China, work with US after Rubio visit

Panama’s president vowed Sunday to end a key development deal with China after meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and after complaints from President Donald Trump that the Latin American country had ceded control over its critical shipping canal to Beijing.

José Raúl Mulino, Panama’s president, said his nation’s sovereignty over the 51-mile waterway, which connects the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, will remain unchanged. But he said he would not renew a 2017 memorandum of understanding to join China’s Belt and Road global development initiative and that Panama would instead look to work more closely with the U.S.

« I think this visit opens the door to build new relations … and try to increase as much as possible U.S. investments in Panama, » Mulino told reporters after meeting with Rubio on his first international trip since being confirmed.

Rubio, who was a senator representing Florida before Trump tapped him to be America’s top diplomat, said his team is ready to push the U.S. agenda.

‘TAKING IT BACK’: INTERNAL HOUSE GOP MEMO OUTLINES CASE FOR TRUMP TO Y PANAMA CANAL

« Had the pleasure of meeting the incredible @USEmbPAN team during my first embassy meet and greet in my new role as Secretary of State! » Rubio wrote in a post on X. « Thankful for their dedication and ongoing efforts to promoting President Trump’s vision of an America First foreign policy. »

During his visit, Rubio wrote in a post on X that « the United States cannot, and will not, allow the Chinese Communist Party to continue with its effective and growing control over the Panama Canal area. »

Trump has complained that China exerts control over the canal and charges U.S. ships six-figure premiums to cross Panama’s isthmus. The canal was built over several decades by the U.S. and completed in 1914 but handed over to Panama during the Carter administration.

Trump has made regaining ownership of the Panama Canal a priority in his administration. House Republicans introduced a bill for the United States to repurchase the Panama Canal after Trump raised concerns that the critical waterway is under Chinese control.

The bill, named the Panama Canal Repurchase Act, was introduced by Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., a member of the Select Committee on China and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

« President Trump is right to consider repurchasing the Panama Canal, » Johnson said in a statement. « China’s interest in and presence around the canal is a cause for concern. America must project strength abroad – owning and operating the Panama Canal might be an important step towards a stronger America and a more secure globe. »

HOUSE REPUBLICANS INTRODUCE BILL TO REPURCHASE PANAMA CANAL AFTER TRUMP RAISES CONCERNS OF CHINESE CONTROL

If it becomes law, the bill would give the president authority to act in coordination with the secretary of state to « initiate and conduct negotiations with appropriate counterparts of the Government of the Republic of Panama to reacquire the Panama Canal. »

CHINA’S INFLUENCE ON PANAMA CANAL POSES ‘ACUTE RISKS TO US NATIONAL SECURITY,’ SEN CRUZ WARNS

The U.S. Department of State estimates around 72% of all vessels that travel through the Panama Canal are coming from or going to a U.S. port.

Noting the canal’s strategic importance to the United States, Johnson’s office also noted how the waterway is a key transit point for U.S. Coast Guard and Department of Defense vessels.

Without access to the canal, ships would be forced to travel 8,000 additional miles around South America.

« More than 10,000 ships use the Panama Canal each year, generating billions of dollars of tolls which would economically benefit America, » Johnson’s office said.

While the canal and China’s role in the region topped the agenda, Rubio had other items to raise.

« We also discussed efforts to end the hemisphere’s mass migration crisis and ensure fair competition for U.S. firms, » Rubio added.

Fox News Digital reached out to the State Department but did not immediately receive a response.

Fox News Digital’s Danielle Wallace contributed to this report.

  • LA freeway blocked by anti-deportation protesters in response to Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration

Hundreds of protesters flooded a busy Los Angeles freeway on Sunday morning, causing major traffic delays in response to President Donald Trump’s illegal immigration crackdown.

The protest began on Olvera Street at around 9 a.m. with a large group of participants. Nearly half an hour later, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) announced several street closures due to « a non-permitted demonstration blocking traffic » and suggested drivers find alternate routes.

The California Highway Patrol also confirmed the protests and encouraged people to avoid downtown Los Angeles while authorities attempted to gain control of the demonstration.

« Please avoid the 101 freeway in DTLA between I-110 and Mission Rd., as we work to remove a protest from the freeway. Accessing state highways or roads to protest is unlawful and extremely dangerous because it puts protesters, motorists and first responders at great risk of injury, » CHP wrote on X.

« No human is illegal on stolen land, » one sign read.

Videos shared on social media show what appeared to be demonstrators spraying graffiti on the freeway walls and vandalizing at least one car that was stopped in the middle of the crowd.

« They shut down freeways and stop traffic in one of the most congested cities in the U.S. to try to convince us not to deport them, » popular conservative account Libs of TikTok wrote on X while sharing video of the incident. « This isn’t gonna end well. Get ICE on scene ASAP. »

TRUMP GOES TOE-TO-TOE WITH SANCTUARY CITIES OVER DEPORTATION AS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN SET TO BEGIN

Trump has received backlash from several Democrat leaders who have vowed to fight back against his deportation operation.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Friday that deportation flights have begun, releasing photos of illegal immigrants boarding military aircraft.

« President Trump is sending a strong and clear message to the entire world: if you illegally enter the United States of America, you will face severe consequences, » she previously wrote on X.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested more than 7,400 illegal immigrants nationwide in nine days amid its aggressive crackdown propelled by the new Trump administration. The agency also said it has placed nearly 6,000 ICE detainers.

ICE officers have been seen carrying out raids at homes, work sites and other establishments, while the Trump administration has vowed to send the most violent illegal immigrants to Guantánamo Bay.

Border czar Tom Homan has said the administration is targeting violent illegal aliens at the moment. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who oversees ICE, also said federal immigration authorities are arresting the « worst of the worst » in raids.

  • Newsweek profile of transgender killer feeling ‘happy to be alive’ trashed as ‘puff piece’

Newsweek’s profile of a former death row inmate and convicted murderer, who is transitioning into a woman, shocked readers who called it « puff piece. »

Steven Joseph Hayes was previously sentenced to death in 2010 for the killing of a Connecticut mother and her two daughters after an attempted burglary. Hayes’ death sentence was later commuted to life without parole in 2015.

Since being convicted, Hayes has transitioned to Linda Mai Lee and gave exclusive comments to Newsweek, claiming to finally feel « comfortable living as a woman. »

« For the first time in my life I am happy to be alive and do not want to die, » Lee told Newsweek.

TRANSGENDER BEST ACTRESS OSCAR NOMINEE APOLOGIZES FOR OLD TWEETS CRITICIZING GEORGE FLOYD, ISLAM

The article was criticized as a « puff piece » about a convicted murderer because the inmate was transgender.

« This man held a family of four hostage in their home for hours, beating them, raping the 11 year old daughter and the mother, then strangling the mother, and finally setting the house on fire, killing both children from smoke inhalation. Newsweek now publishes a puff piece on how he is now happy and at peace since he came to terms with his gender confusion. They claim his ‘former anger’ had been fueled by this distress. Now he is seeking treatments to feminize his appearance. (Undoubtedly funded by taxpayers.) You don’t hate the media enough, » civil liberties attorney Laura Powell wrote.

Live Action founder Lila Rose wrote, « A man convicted for the murder and rape of a mother and her two young daughters has a puff piece in Newsweek today about how happy he is now that he has ‘transitioned’ and gets to live in a WOMEN’S prison and wear lipstick and ‘panties.’ Unbelievable evil. »

Author Helen Joyce asked, « He raped an 11 year old and her mother, and murdered both, as well as the 11 year old’s sister. And we’re supposed to pity him because his crimes were supposedly because of his confusion about his gender identity? And to give a toss that he’s ‘happy to be alive’? »

« He murdered a mother and her two daughters and raped two of them before doing so. But now he’s kind of sorry for what he did, but he’s also at peace with it. The feel-good story of the year, » National Review columnist Becket Adams wrote.

« ’I raped and murdered a little girl and her mother, and murdered the teenage daughter, because of my feminine gender identity’ Siri show me the definition of ‘misogynistic garbage.’ Shame on Newsweek for publishing this repulsive crap, » British columnist Hadley Freeman wrote.

« Newsweek is total trash. Used to be a respected and respectable. No more, » former professional tennis player Martina Navratilova wrote.

In the Newsweek piece, Lee (formerly Hayes) described the murders as « wrong on every level » and « the behavior of someone deeply mired in addiction and gender identity issues. » Newsweek similarly reported on how Lee was diagnosed with gender dysphoria at the age of 16 and how « intolerance » likely contributed to the crimes.

« Had Lee accepted herself earlier, Hawke-Petit and her daughters may still be alive, she said, » the article read.

  • NTSB releases video of responders searching through eerie site of fatal Philadelphia Learjet crash

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recently released video of officials combing through the debris and destruction left after the fatal Jan. 31 plane crash in Philadelphia, which killed at least seven people and injured 22 others.

The footage, which was shot on Sunday, showed the haunting aftermath of the Learjet 55 crash. The eerily-empty streets were strewn with debris, yellow tape and abandoned vehicles, as well as construction barriers guarding the scene of the crash.

One official stood in a crater-sized hole to inspect the rubble. Drone footage also shows the abandoned cars with broken windows covered in ash several yards away from the crater.

On Sunday, the NTSB announced that it had recovered the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) from the scene, which was found eight feet below the site of the initial impact. Investigators also found the aircraft’s enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS), which the NTSB says « could also contain flight data. »

KAZAKHSTAN PLANE CRASH SURVIVORS SAY THEY HEARD BANGS BEFORE AIRCRAFT WENT DOWN; PUTIN ISSUES STATEMENT

« Both components will be sent to the NTSB Vehicle Recorders Laboratory in Washington, DC for evaluation, » the statement added.  « NTSB investigators have recovered both engines. Wreckage recovery continues tomorrow and all of the wreckage will be sent to a secure location in Delaware for further examination. »

The crash, which involved a medevac jet, took place near the Roosevelt Mall at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening. The aircraft was departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport at the time, en route to Missouri for a fuel stop and eventually Mexico.

Jet Air Ambulance spokesperson Shai Gold told Fox News Digital that a passenger on the flight was a Mexican citizen who was in the U.S. for life-saving medical treatment. The young girl was headed home at the time with her mother.

In total, six people were on the plane, including four crew members. On Sunday, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker said that at least 22 people were injured, and the seventh fatal victim was in a car at the time of the crash.

« Five of the victims remain hospitalized currently, and three of them are in critical condition, » the mayor said at the press conference. « We have not, out of respect for their families and their loved ones, shared the names of any of those who have been impacted. Please continue to lift them, their families and loved ones up in prayer. »

Fires erupted immediately after the plane crash, but Philadelphia fire officials eventually got the flames under control. Gold told Fox News Digital that the aircraft was « loaded with jet fuel that’s highly flammable. »

« There is no indication that anybody survived, and by the debris field, I would be pleasantly surprised to learn otherwise, » Gold explained at the time.

The Jet Air Ambulance spokesperson added that the pilot aboard the Learjet was « a very seasoned pilot, » and that the co-pilot was also experienced.

« They know the job, and they do it many times, » Gold added. « We fly 600 to 700 missions a year. We are very busy, very active, and we keep top-notch staff. »

On Sunday, the NTSB announced that it had recovered the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) from the scene, which was found eight feet below the site of the initial impact. • Canadian Ambassador to U.S. says Canadians are ‘perplexed,’ ‘disappointed’ by Trump tariffs

Canadian Ambassador to the U.S. Kirsten Hillman said Canadians were disappointed and perplexed by President Donald Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on imports from the country during an interview on Sunday.

« Canadians are perplexed, I think disappointed. We view ourselves as your neighbor, your closest friend, your ally, you know, a country whose citizens have fought and died with you around the world in defense of values that we share, who come to the aid of the Los Angeles fires, most recently, and I think are really perplexed by this move. So I don’t think anybody will need to tell Canadians what to do. I think that they will make their decisions on their own, » she told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.

Trump signed an executive order authorizing the tariffs on Saturday, which will go into effect Tuesday, consisting of a 25% additional tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on imports from China.

Stephanopoulos asked Hillman if the Canadian citizens felt betrayed.

TRUMP TREASURY PICK: EXTENDING TRUMP TAX CUTS ‘SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT ECONOMIC ISSUE’

« I think they’re confused. I don’t think they understand where this is coming from. I think they know the degree to which we have made every effort to address the president’s concerns, and so they just don’t understand where this is coming from, and probably there’s a little bit of hurt, right? » she responded.

Hillman said Canada and the U.S. had people who travel back and forth between the two countries and touted a partnership between them.

« We have 400,000 to 500,000 people that move back and forth between our two countries every day. Businesses, tourists, students, workers, and there’s a sense of partnership, of family, of being each other’s best, as I say, best customer, best friend. So I think that this is something that we really don’t, the Canadians don’t understand, » Hillman added.

The Canadian ambassador said that Trump likely does value the U.S. partnership with Canada, and said « I think that we’re going to have to see where this takes us. »

Trump said Friday that he was not worried about American consumers taking a hit and said the tariffs will ensure that other countries treat the U.S. « fairly. »

« There may be temporary, short-term disruption, and people will understand that, » Trump told reporters Friday in the Oval Office.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the tariffs were due to illegal fentanyl.

« The president will be implementing tomorrow a 25% tariff on Mexico, 25% tariffs on Canada, and a 10% tariff on China for the illegal fentanyl they have sourced and allowed to distribute into our country, which has killed tens of millions of Americans, » Leavitt told reporters on Friday. « These are promises made and promises kept. »

  • ICE nabs 7 illegal immigrants during Philadelphia car wash raid

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducted a worksite raid at a car wash in Philadelphia that led to the arrest of seven illegal immigrants, the agency announced.

ICE confirmed they conducted a worksite enforcement operation on Jan. 28 at Complete Autowash in Philadelphia based on allegations that employees were being subjected to labor exploitation.

The agency said that ICE agents encountered, interviewed and arrested seven illegal aliens for immigration violations, who were later detained pending removal.

When asked about the worksite raid, one senior ICE official’s reaction to the operation was « Wowsers, » according to Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin.

ICE CRACKDOWN SEES 7,400 ILLEGAL MIGRANTS ARRESTED IN 9 DAYS

Melugin noted that worksite operations like this were not happening under the Biden administration.

President Donald Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan has repeatedly said that if someone is in the U.S. illegally, « they’re on the table, » regardless of if they have criminal convictions.

Of those arrested, ICE confirmed that six were from Mexico and one was from the Dominican Republic.

« The successful execution of this worksite enforcement operation underscores our determined commitment to national security and public safety, » Enforcement and Removal Operations Philadelphia acting Field Office Director Brian McShane said in a statement.

« We were able to apprehend individuals who are unlawfully present in the United States. These operations highlight the dedication and diligence of our officers and agents in protecting our communities from potential threats by enforcing immigration laws in accordance with U.S. laws and Department of Homeland Security policies. »

ICE officers have been seen carrying out raids of homes, work sites, and other establishments, while deportations have also ramped up, with the Trump administration vowing to send the most violent migrants to Guantánamo Bay.

According to a compilation of daily totals of arrests, as of Jan. 31, ICE has so far arrested 7,412 people who the agency says are in the country illegally. The agency says that nearly 6,000 ICE detainers have been placed on individuals.

  • Caitlin Clark watches Iowa stun No 4 USC as her jersey gets retired

Caitlin Clark had a terrific Sunday afternoon.

The University of Iowa women’s basketball program immortalized Clark’s career forever as they officially retired her No. 22 jersey and hung it in the rafters of Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Clark stood with her family as the number was raised to the top of the facility.

Clark then got to watch the Hawkeyes stun No. 4 USC for one of the biggest wins of their season. Lucy Olsen scored 28 points and Addison O’Grady had 13 in the 76-69 win. Iowa opened the game on a 17-1 run but were down at halftime before righting the ship and pulling off the victory.

    Olsen and O’Grady had 23 of Iowa’s 25 fourth-quarter points.

JuJu Watkins, who is set to be the next women’s basketball star, led the team with 27 points, five rebounds and three assists. She was 8-of-22 from the field and played 40 minutes.

But it wasn’t enough for the Trojans to hold off Iowa.

Clark, who became college basketball’s all-time leading scorer while leading Iowa to back-to-back national championship appearances, spoke about her jersey retirement before the game.

SOUTH CAROLINA RETIRES JERSEY NUMBER OF 3-TIME WNBA MVP A’JA WILSON

« I feel like I already have those butterflies in your stomach when you walk in here, » Clark said during a pregame press conference. « Not so much for a basketball game now, but obviously just to be around everybody and to enjoy this environment. I don’t have to go and compete for 40 minutes, even though I wish maybe I could. I think it will definitely be a little bit more emotional that I don’t have to compete. »

A sellout crowd of 14,998 attended the game. Former Iowa coach Lisa Bluder and former teammates Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall were in attendance. Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White and comedian David Letterman were also at the game.

Clark reflected on the winning Iowa did while she was at the press conference.

« The winning came because of the great culture that we had, » she said. « And for me, I hope that’s the thing that always stays intact, and I know it will, because of the great coaching staff we have and the type of players that they are here.

« We had players that were selfless. We had players that didn’t care how many points you were going to score. They’re going to do whatever they could for your teammates. They were going to hold their teammates accountable. And I think that’s a lost art in college these days, and you don’t always see that. »

  • NY Dems working to keep Stefanik’s House seat vacant for months in latest scheme against Trump: assemblyman

New York Democratic lawmakers are working to keep Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik’s House seat vacant until the summer in an unprecedented move hashed out during late-night discussions last week, a Republican Empire State assemblyman told Fox Digital.

« We still haven’t seen the final proposal from the Democrats in Albany, but there’s no doubt that Tammany Hall corruption is alive and well in the state capital, » Republican New York Assemblyman Matt Slater, who represents the state’s 94th district in areas of Putnam and Westchester counties, told Fox News Digital in an exclusive Zoom interview on Sunday morning.

« It is just blatantly corrupt for the New York State Democrats to keep changing the rules of engagement simply out of self-interest. Meanwhile, New Yorkers are struggling in so many different ways. U-Haul just gave us our worst migration rating ever because there’s so many New Yorkers who are fleeing this state. So they can get things done, but they only do it when it benefits them, » Slater continued.

Slater, who serves as the ranking Republican on the state’s Election Law Committee, was reacting to state Democrats working to introduce legislation that could keep Stefanik’s House seat vacant until June, when the state holds its scheduled primary elections. Stefanik is in the midst of her confirmation process to serve in the Trump administration and is expected to resign her House seat if the Senate confirms her as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

STEFANIK LOOKS BACK TO FIERY EXCHANGES WITH COLLEGE LEADERS IN SENATE CONFIRMATION HEARING: ‘WATERSHED MOMENT’

Under current law, New York’s governor has 10 days to declare a special election for a vacant seat and an additional 80 to 90 days to hold the election. Stefanik’s seat is key for the Republican Party and Trump’s second administration, as Republicans hold a slim majority at 218 members to the Democrats’ 215 members.

The state Democrats’ anticipated legislation has not yet been introduced, but Democrats were summoned to an emergency conference on Friday evening to reportedly discuss such a bill, Slater explained. He expects to have a copy of the Democrats’ bill on Monday morning.

Slater said the Democrats’ objective of changing election laws to move the special election back to the summer is part of their bigger agenda to combat the second Trump administration.

« Speaker Johnson has the hardest job in government right now, trying to keep the Republican conference, caucus together. This obviously would make that margin of Republican control that much more thin and that much more challenging for the speaker and, again, jeopardizing President Trump’s agenda to get through Congress. That’s their entire mission and goal, the Albany Democrats, is to make sure that they’re combating President Trump each step of the way. And this is their latest way of doing it, » Slater said.

He pointed to a bevy of instances in which New York Democrats have leveraged their state power to combat Trump and the Republican Party in recent years, including gerrymandering and « stacking » New York’s top court with Democrats.

NEW YORK APPEALS COURT JUDGES IN TRUMP CASE ROUTINELY DONATED TO DEMOCRATS, RECORDS SHOW

« If you look at the track record of the Democrats, who control every aspect of state government here in New York, they have changed the rules so many times just because it benefits them. Whether it’s redistricting, whether it’s stacking the Court of Appeals, whether it’s allowing the governor to remove her then-indicted lieutenant governor from the ballot. The list goes on and on, » he said.

« And in this case, it will deprive 800,000 New Yorkers of proper representation in Washington. And oh by the way, there were two special elections last year. And the Democrats didn’t say anything about changing the rules because fact of the matter is, these are Republican districts that will be impacted, and they are trying to disrupt the Trump administration and, frankly, Leader Johnson from being able to deliver on their agenda. »

President Donald Trump nominated Stefanik to serve as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under his second administration. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted to advance the New York Republican’s confirmation on Thursday, with her full Senate floor vote expected later this week.

FETTERMAN STILL ENTHUSIASTICALLY SUPPORTIVE OF STEFANIK FOR US AMBASSADOR TO UN: ‘ALWAYS WAS A HARD YES’

Stefanik is expected to resign from the U.S. House to take the ambassadorship if and when the Senate officially confirms her nomination.

A spokesperson for Democrat New York Gov. Kathy Hochul told Gothamist that she « believes it’s critical to increase voter turnout and reduce the cost of election administration, and she would support legislation that achieves that goal. »

Slater poured cold water on the office’s claim that the proposal is rooted in promoting voter turnout and easing costs, pointing to two special elections held last year – former Democrat Rep. Brian Higgins’ seat as well as the February 2024 special election to replace former Republican Rep. George Santos’ in a district where Democrats were expected to have an edge over the GOP. Democrats, who have held trifecta control in the state since 2018, did not push to change special election laws last year, Slater noted.

WHAT STEFANIK’S HOUSE TENURE REVEALS ABOUT WHAT TYPE OF UN AMBASSADOR SHE MAY BE

« I can’t believe how hypocritical the governor and her office can be in this, because let me remind the governor that she had two special elections for Congress last year, » he said.

« To sit here and say that this is going to save taxpayer money and increase voter turnout, but you didn’t think about that last year when your own party had special elections that you were favored to win? Fact of the matter is, this has everything to do with the fact that this is a Republican seat. This is about control of Republicans in Congress, and this is about disrupting President Trump’s agenda in Washington. »

Local outlets have reported the bill could push the special election beyond June to November, when the state holds its general elections, though Slater cast doubt that Democrats would push the envelope that far.

« If you want to talk about increasing voter turnout and saving taxpayer money, they really don’t have an excuse to wait past that June date. And so, you know, yes, it’s always a possibility that November is the date that they put in the legislation. But I’m hard-pressed to believe that they would go that far, » he said.

Slater argued that the push from Democrats to approve the special election change is a wake-up call for New Yorkers.

« [It’s] so transparently political that New Yorkers need to wake up, and they need to understand that this isn’t the leadership that we’re asking for. President Trump has a great agenda moving forward, and this is all about disrupting that agenda to put America first, » he said.

Stefanik is a longtime Trump ally who chaired the House Republican Conference from 2021 to 2025, making her the fourth-most powerful Republican in the House. She was first elected to the House in blue New York in 2014 at age 30, making her the youngest woman elected to the House at the time.

Fox News Digital reached out to the governor’s office on Sunday but did not immediately receive a reply.

  • Caitlin Clark responds to critics ahead of Iowa jersey retirement: ‘I really don’t care’

Caitlin Clark has become one of the most polarizing figures in all of sports over the last year-plus.

Her popularity reached a peak nearly two years ago when she and Angel Reese duked it out in the national championship – and then, she became a household name.

Clark set numerous records in her senior year, including becoming the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, and parlayed it all into becoming the No. 1 overall pick.

SIGN UP FOR TUBI AND STREAM SUPER BOWL LIX FOR FREE

But then came the culture wars that she found herself in the middle of, with many, including WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson, saying that her race played a role in her popularity.

Clark was the victim of some hard fouls and trash talk throughout her rookie season, but it didn’t seem to faze her, as she set plenty of records in Year One.

Clark returned to Iowa on Sunday to see her No. 22 go into the rafters, and she was asked about the criticism she’s received recently.

« I think it’s just life. Everybody goes through some of the things that I’ve gone through, a lot of people go through a lot worse. I just try to remind myself every single day how grateful I am to be in the position I am, I want to treat everyone the same way that I would want to be treated. It speaks to the way I was raised and my parents raised me. There’s gonna be good days, there’s gonna be bad days. But it’s just, you go with the flow. I think having a good circle around me, a small circle around me of people that I really trust that I can always count on and lean on is what’s been so important for me over this past year, » Clark told reporters on Sunday.

ANGEL REESE BECOMES FIRST PLAYER EJECTED FROM UNRIVALED LEAGUE AND THEN CALLS COVERAGE OF IT ‘CLICKBAIT’

« But also, I’ve said this before, I feel like one of my greatest skills is I really don’t care. Like, I don’t. I don’t care. I believe in myself, I’m confident in myself, I’m confident in my teammates, I try to instill that in them, I’m confident in the coaching staff of whatever team I was on, whether that was [at Iowa], whether that’s at the Fever now. You just rely on those people. Nobody gets to step inside your locker room… Everybody thinks they know everything and have an answer, but that’s just not reality. That goes for all of professional sports, that goes for all of you as well and people in life. »

As Clark’s rookie season progressed, there were allegations of racism from both Fever and Iowa fans, a claim made by the aforementioned Reese.

But Clark’s appearances in games brought historic viewership to both the college and pro levels. The final three games of her college career were the most-watched women’s college basketball games ever. She also had several of her regular-season games draw more viewers than WNBA playoff games, and her WNBA matchups with Reese were some of the most-viewed WNBA games ever.

WNBA teams even had to move to larger arenas simply because of the ticket demand Clark drew; the Fever sold 90 times more tickets this past year than in 2023.

Clark was named the Rookie of the Year for her historic campaign during which she set the record for the most assists in one season in league history. She carried the Fever to a playoff appearance after a slow start, and she quickly became a double-double machine. She even set a single-game record with 19 assists. She also became the first rookie to record a triple-double, registering two of them.

She received the most votes for the All-Star Game and was just the fifth rookie in league history to make the All-WNBA first-team.

  • Fetterman says RFK Jr confirmation ‘not a slam dunk,’ as Trump HHS nominee shores up support

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., said the confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services is « not a slam dunk, » as President Donald Trump’s nominee works to shore up support.

In an appearance on « Fox News Sunday, » Fetterman said he has met with Kennedy twice in his office and that whatever his decision ends up being on the HHS nominee, it will be « an informed view. »

« I’ve invested a lot of time to really understand his background and to learn more about the man, » Fetterman said, adding: « I approached with an open mind and I watched the hearing. And that’s how the process works. »

TRUMP HEALTH SECRETARY NOMINEE RFK JR SURVIVES HEATED HEARINGS AHEAD OF CRUCIAL CONFIRMATION VOTES

Asked if he’s reached a decision on whether he’ll vote « yay » or « nay » for Kennedy, Fetterman said he has spoken to colleagues on both sides regarding the matter.

« It’s been challenging for sure. Absolutely. It’s certainly not a slam dunk for the nomination, » Fetterman told « Fox News Sunday » host Shannon Bream.

« I’ve made an investment to really understand and talk to all of the nominees, and I treated everyone with respect and I took the time to listen, and that’s been part of my commitment, » he added.

Kennedy, a lifelong Democrat who switched his presidential campaign against Biden to run as an Independent before ultimately dropping from the race to back Trump, made it through back-to-back grillings by the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday and the Health Committee on Thursday. He still faces crucial committee and full Senate confirmation votes in his mission to lead 18 powerful federal agencies that oversee the nation’s food and health.

VP VANCE MAKES CONFIRMATION PREDICTIONS FOR GABBARD, PATEL AND RFK, JR: ‘HAVE TO FIGHT FOR EACH ONE’

Most of the tough questions and sparring over his stances on vaccines, abortion, Medicaid and other issues came from Democrats on the two committees, but Thursday’s hearing ended with the top Republican on the Health panel saying he was « struggling » with Kennedy’s nomination.

« Your past of undermining confidence in vaccines with unfounded or misleading arguments concerns me, » Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., told the nominee.

The physician from Louisiana, who is a crucial vote and who has voiced concerns over Kennedy’s past stance on vaccines, asked whether Kennedy can « be trusted to support the best public health. » The senator told Kennedy, who seeks to lead key health agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, that « you may be hearing from me over the weekend. »

Kennedy, whose outspoken views on the pharmaceutical and food industries have also sparked controversy, has said he aims to shift the focus of the agencies he would oversee toward promotion of a healthy lifestyle, including overhauling dietary guidelines, taking aim at ultra-processed foods and getting to the root causes of chronic diseases.

A strong pro-life advocate, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told « Fox News Sunday » that he is supporting Kennedy despite the nominee’s past comments saying he supported codifying Roe v. Wade and abortion « even if it’s full term. »

« I am now OK to supporting RFK Jr. because I think during the course of the hearing he’s committed to a Republican pro-life agenda, President Trump’s pro-life agenda, » Graham said when asked about those specific past remarks from Kennedy. « So I will take him at his word. I’m comfortable with what he said on the pro-life issue. He has been radically pro-choice as a person. But I do believe that as secretary, he will implement a pro-life agenda that will be pushed by President Trump. I will be a yes, but I’ll also watch every move he makes. »

Fox News’ Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

  • New DNC vice chair previously called for ICE to be abolished

Newly elected Democratic National Committee Vice Chair David Hogg has previously called on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be abolished and for the defunding of police.

« Defund the police not USPS, » Hogg, who first entered the national spotlight after surviving the 2018 Parkland, Florida, school shooting, said in an X post on Aug. 15, 2020.

« Abolish ICE, » Hogg said in a different post two weeks earlier.

DAVID HOGG SAYS HE RECEIVED ‘AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF VITRIOL’ FOR ASKING ABOUT DEM OUTREACH TO YOUNG MEN

The posts, which were made more than two years after Hogg survived the Florida school shooting, came as he became increasingly involved in political activism, most notably by his staunch advocacy for stricter gun laws.

Hogg has also made controversial posts on other topics, including a January 2021 call to declare the NRA a « terrorist organization. »

« The NRA needs to be designated a terrorist organization for the role their supporters played in staging an insurrectionist coup, » Hogg said in the post.

Hogg also made posts about climate change and incorrectly predicted the outcome of the 2024 election.

« Unlike Covid there is no vaccine for climate change once we start feeling the impacts we can just implement and survive. There is only one solution – prevention, » Hogg said in in one post.

« If this election is a match up between Taylor Swift and Ted Nugent I think it’s safe to say I’ve seen enough – Biden wins the 2024 election, » Hogg said before former President Joe Biden made the decision to drop out of the 2024 race.

Now just 24 years old, Hogg took to social media early Sunday to celebrate his election to leadership within the DNC.

DEMOCRATS CONSIDER REBRAND AFTER TRUMP WIN, WANT TO AVOID ‘FREAK SHOW’ PARTY LABEL: REPORT

« I’ve just been elected as a Vice Chair of the DNC. I’m deeply grateful to the members for their trust and belief in me and I don’t take it lightly. Now it’s time to get to work, » Hogg said in a post on X, going on to promise a « Democratic Party that is authentic, relatable, earns people’s trust, and wins again. »

« It’s time we stop surrendering, go on offense, and take the fight to Donald Trump and every single Republican who is gutting our rights, attacking workers, and rigging the system for the wealthy and well-connected, » Hogg said.

But the elevation of Hogg to vice chair of the DNC also comes at a time of deep soul-searching for the Democratic Party, with many analysts blaming the party’s poor 2024 showing on its seemingly soft stances on crime and illegal immigration.

Nevertheless, Hogg called on the party to « rethink the way we’ve been doing things » in his post on X, arguing that it is vital « to rid our party of its judgmental attitudes, and do the work to win back every group we lost this year, from the working class to young people. »

The DNC did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment.

  • JONATHAN TURLEY: End NPR’s taxpayer-funded gravy train

« This is NPR. » That tagline has long been used for National Public Radio, but what it is remains remarkably in doubt. NPR remains something of a curiosity. It is a state-subsidized media outlet in a country that rejects state media. It is a site that routinely pitches for its sponsors while insisting that it does not have commercials. That confusion may be on the way to a final resolution following the election. NPR is about to have a reckoning with precisely what it is and what it represents.

While I once appeared regularly on NPR, I grew more critical of the outlet as it became overtly political in its coverage and intolerant of opposing views.

TRUMP TAPS FCC MEMBER BRENDAN CARR TO LEAD AGENCY: ‘WARRIOR FOR FREE SPEECH’

Even after a respected editor, Uri Berliner, wrote a scathing account of the political bias at NPR, the outlet has doubled down on its one-sided coverage and commentary. Indeed, while tacking aggressively to the left and openly supporting narratives (including some false stories) from Democratic sources, NPR has dismissed the criticism. When many of us called on NPR to pick a more politically neutral CEO, it instead chose Katherine Maher, who was previously criticized for her strident political views.

Some have long questioned the federal government’s subsidization of a media organization. NPR itself continues to maintain that « federal funding is essential » to its work. However, this country has long rejected state media models as undermining democratic values.

This funding is likely more important, given NPR’s cratering audience and revenue. The NPR’s audience has been declining for years. As a result, NPR has been forced to make deep staff cuts.

Ironically, NPR has one of the least diverse audiences in media. Its listeners are is overwhelmingly white, liberal, and more affluent than the rest of the country. Yet, while serving fewer and fewer people, it still expects most of the country to subsidize its programming.

Many of us have argued that NPR should compete with other radio companies in the free market. Notably, some Democratic leaders have pushed to get Fox News dropped from cable news carriers despite the fact that it is not government subsidized and consistently ranks as the most-watched cable news network. (For full disclosure, I am a legal analyst at Fox.)

NPR and PBS are facing calls for the subsidy to be removed at long last. However, at the same time, pressure is coming from the Federal Communications Commission. FCC Chair Brendan Carr is inquiring about NPR’s claim that it does not do commercial advertising.

Many of us have noticed that NPR has ramped up its sponsor statements with taglines about the products or firm’s clientele. Carr wrote, « I am concerned that NPR and PBS broadcasts could be violating federal law by airing commercials. In particular, it is possible that NPR and PBS member stations are broadcasting underwriting announcements that cross the line into prohibited commercial advertisements. »

The support for noncommercial radio and television stations fell under different regulations. It is hard to see the sponsor acknowledgments as anything other than commercial advertising. It is common for for-profit outlets to have hosts read commercial sponsors.

Noncommercial educational broadcast stations, or NCEs, are prohibited under Section 399B of the Communications Act from airing commercials or other promotional announcements on behalf of for-profit entities.

What is interesting is that NPR stresses in its sponsor guidelines that the « NPR way » is actually a better method to reach consumers:

« Across platforms, NPR sponsor messages are governed by slightly different regulations, but the guiding spirit is the same: guidelines are less about what’s « allowed » and more about the approach that works best for brands to craft sponsor recognition messages that connect with people in ‘the NPR way,’ » read the guidelines.

It is common for law firms or companies to have hosts herald their work in given areas. It is also common to have product references.

The thrust of NPR’s pitch to advertisers is that this is a different type of pitch to attract more customers. However, the federal government claims that this is really not a commercial pitch at all.

There is little discernible difference between NPR and competitors beyond pretense when it comes to bias or promotions. What is striking is how NPR’s shrinking audience righteously opposes any effort to cut off public subsidies. While dismissing the values or views of half the country, they expect those citizens to support its programming. What would the reaction be if Congress ordered the same subsidy for more popular competitors like Fox Radio?

CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINION

I would oppose a subsidy for Fox as I do for NPR. Each outlet should depend on its viewership for support. Notably, many liberal outlets continue to maintain their biased coverage despite falling ratings and revenues. The Washington Post has had to again lay off employees and has lost roughly half of its readership.

After being called in to right the ship, Washington Post publisher and CEO William Lewis delivered a truth bomb in the middle of the newsroom by telling the staff, « Let’s not sugarcoat it…We are losing large amounts of money. Your audience has halved in recent years. People are not reading your stuff. Right? I can’t sugarcoat it anymore. »

Nevertheless, writers at the LA Times and other outlets continue to argue against balanced coverage. They would rather lose readers and revenue than their bias. So be it. These outlets have every right to offer their own slanted viewpoints or coverage. They do not have a right to a federal subsidy to insulate them from the response of consumers.

It is time to establish a bright-line rule against government subsidies for favored media outlets. « This is NPR » but it is not who we should be as a nation.
