  • WNBA star who hurt Caitlin Clark’s eye calls for league to ‘take action’ against Trump administration policies

Connecticut Sun player DiJonai Carrington incited fierce backlash by wearing an anti-Trump shirt last weekend, and now she’s taking that message even further. During a press conference before an « Unrivaled » league game Thursday, Carrington declared it’s time for WNBA players to « take action » in response to President Donald Trump’s policies. »We see that some of the policies are already going into action, and, of course, that means that as the WNBA and being at the forefront of a lot of these movements, it’s time for us to also take action, » Carrington said. « It definitely needs to happen as women, women’s rights being taken away, like, now, LGBTQ rights being taken away now. However, she made light of the controversy over Clark’s black eye in an Instagram Live video in October. In the video, Carrington and her girlfriend, NaLyssa Smith, who plays on the Indiana Fever with Clark, were in their kitchen when Smith poked Carrington in the eye. »Ow, you poked me in the eye, » Carrington said. Smith apologized, and the two laughed. »Did you do it on purpose? » Carrington asked.Carrington provoked Clark fans prior to the eye-poking incident with multiple statements berating Clark and her fan base. During a game in June, Carrington fouled Clark after Clark received an inbound pass from teammate Kristy Wallace. Clark caught the pass and started toward the basket. Carrington was late getting to Clark due to a screen by Aliyah Boston, and she bumped into Clark.Later that month, Carrington posted on X, saying Clark should do more to speak out about people using her name for « racism » and other forms of prejudice. • Hot mic catches moment Commanders’ Jayden Daniels was perplexed by odd referee announcement in NFC title game

During the Philadelphia Eagles’ beatdown of the Washington Commanders in the NFC championship, there was an odd moment at the goal line in the second half when Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu tried to stop a « tush push » by jumping over the offensive line. But he was called for encroachment … multiple times. « Inside the NFL » caught the moment Luvu leaped over the Eagles’ offensive line without the ball being snapped. And, because he did it so many times, referees stepped in. SIGN UP FOR TUBI AND STREAM SUPER BOWL LIX FOR FREEWhat was said, though, shocked many people, including Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. « Encroachment, defense, No. 4, » the referee said. « Washington has been advised that, at some point, the referee can award a score if this type of behavior happens again. » »Award a score? You can give them a touchdown? » Daniels responded on the sideline. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMAlthough it worked out in their favor, the Eagles’ defenders watching their offense about to punch in another score never heard of the rule either. « Next time they do that, they award a score? » Darius Slay asked fellow defensive back Cooper DeJean. « The refs can give us a touchdown I guess if they do it again or something, » DeJean responded. The obscure rule is found in the NFL Rulebook as Rule 12, Section 3, Article 4. « PALPABLY UNFAIR ACT: A player or substitute shall not interfere with play by any act which is palpably unfair. 51 Rule 12 Penalty: For a palpably unfair act: Offender may be disqualified. The Referee, after consulting the officiating crew, enforces any such distance penalty as they consider equitable and irrespective of any other specified code penalty. The Referee may award a score. »The rule is for obvious unfair situations, and referees felt Luvu consistently jumping the gun on his leap to stop Jalen Hurts and the tush push was too much because the Eagles didn’t snap the ball. Hurts eventually got into the end zone on a tush push for his third rushing touchdown against the Commanders in the 55-23 rout. Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

  • ‘Can’t be trusted’: Schiff sets social media ablaze after clashing with Kash Patel during explosive hearing

A clash on Thursday between Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Kash Patel, the nominee for FBI director, set social media ablaze when conservatives ripped into the new California senator after what they saw as a win for the Trump nominee.Schiff, in his line of questioning at Patel’s confirmation hearing, began by asking Patel whether he stood by prior testimony that he had nothing to do with the recording of a song about the Jan. 6 Capitol riot inmates. »[That] is interesting, because here’s what you told Steve Bannon on his podcast: ‘So, what we thought would be cool is if we captured that audio and then, of course, had the greatest president, President Donald J. Trump, recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Then we went to a studio and recorded it, mastered it, digitized it, and put it out as a song.’ »KASH PATEL ENRAGES ADAM SCHIFF IN CLINTONIAN BATTLE OVER THE WORD ‘WE’ AND A JANUARY 6 SONG The two quibbled over the meaning of « we » and whether it included Patel. »Yeah, and you’re part of that ‘we’ — right — when you say ‘we,’ that includes you, Mr. Patel, » Schiff said. »Not in every instance. » Patel said, adding he had not personally participated in the recording or mastering of the single.Schiff responded, « Well, that’s new. • Trump has tense exchange with CNN reporter over blaming DEI policies in plane crash

President Donald Trump defended his comments questioning whether diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies played a role in the disastrous aircraft collision above the nation’s capital that killed 67 people. Trump, speaking to reporters in the White House briefing room late Thursday morning, highlighted efforts by the Biden administration to lower aviation standards, though he acknowledged that the cause of Wednesday night’s crash has yet to be determined.CNN host Kaitlan Collins objected to Trump’s rhetoric, calling him out for « blaming Democrats and DEI policies and air traffic control and seemingly the member of the U.S. military who was flying that Black Hawk helicopter. »She went on to ask, « Don’t you think you’re getting ahead of the investigation right now? »TRUMP ATTACKS DEI POLICIES AFTER DC PLANE CRASH, SAYS FAA EMPLOYEES MUST BE HELD TO ‘HIGHEST STANDARDS’ »No, I don’t think so at all. I don’t think, with the names of the people, you mean the names of the people that are on the plane? » Trump asked. « You think that’s going to make a difference? They are a group of people that have lost their lives. If you want a list of the names, we can give you that, we will be giving that very soon. We’re in coordination with American Airlines. • Chicago casino project accused in lawsuit of not allowing White men to invest: ‘Blatantly discriminatory’

A new casino slated to open in the heart of downtown Chicago is being accused of violating U.S. civil rights laws by allegedly preventing White men from investing in the project – a move that has prompted a lawsuit.Bally’s Chicago is a $1.7-billion dollar casino and resort slated to open in the Windy City’s River West neighborhood in 2026. The expansive complex is projected to be Illinois’ biggest casino, boasting a 500-room hotel tower with a rooftop bar, a riverwalk, thousands of slot machines and a 3,000-seat theater. Bally’s will be the city’s first casino; its bid was selected by then-Mayor Lori Lightfoot in 2022. As part of the Host Community Agreement Bally’s signed with the city of Chicago, the casino committed to 25% minority ownership. The HCA was drafted in accordance with a 2019 state law expanding gambling in Illinois. Currently, in order to take part in the casino’s $250 million initial public offering, one must meet its « Class A Qualification Criteria, » part of which states that an investor must be a « minority or woman. »RECORDS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO BOULDER SHOW COLLEGE PURSUED RACE-BASED HIRINGA minority is defined as « African-Americans, American Indians, Asian-Americans, Hispanics » and other groups deemed by the city to be « socially disadvantaged » including Arab Americans, per the Municipal Code of Chicago. The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty is suing Bally’s Casino and members of the Illinois gaming commission for what they allege is racial discrimination. WILL is representing two would-be investors who say they were denied the ability to take part in the project because of their race – Richard Fisher and Phillip Aronoff – who are part of the American Alliance for Equal Rights, which is also a plaintiff in the case. The lawsuit alleges that Bally’s is in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the first Ku Klux Klan Act and years of Supreme Court precedent by preventing White men from buying stock in their company. The suit also alleges that Bally’s is preventing shareholders from transferring shares to people who do not meet « Class A » criteria. « Making a contract is essential to the rights of citizenship. What Bally’s is doing here is absolutely illegal and has been for decades and decades, » Dan Lennington of the Wisconsin Institute of Law and Liberty told Fox News Digital.SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS SLAPPED WITH LAWSUITS FOR ALLEGED DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WHITE MENChicago attorney Patrick Callahan is not a party to the lawsuit, but he told Fox News Digital he was unable to invest in the project because he is a White man. »It’s so blatantly discriminatory, I can’t imagine how that could possibly be permissible, » Callahan said.Callahan, 39, said he first heard about the casino from a realtor he follows on Instagram. He thought it was an exciting investment opportunity and attempted to buy shares in the project. After filling out his personal information on the Bally’s investment portal, he was asked if he met the « Class A » criteria. When Callahan input that he did not, due to his race and gender, he said the portal stated that he could not proceed with his investment.  « This offering is only available to entities who satisfy Class A Qualification Criteria in accordance with the Host Community Agreement with the city of Chicago, » the portal displayed in red text. « I assumed that it was more of a guideline than a hard rule… this can’t actually be… but sure enough this is exclusively available to women and certain minorities, » Callahan told Fox News Digital.Callahan said that the alleged racial discrimination was far from shocking given how the city has been run under Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, but he was still alarmed. »It didn’t surprise me as much as it was kind of startling because it was just so blatant… Chicago is a mess so it doesn’t surprise me, » he said.WILL’s lawsuit could lead to legal consequences for Bally’s that may even put its casino license in jeopardy, Lennington said.Bally’s SEC filing stated the terms they agreed to in the HCA could leave them vulnerable to lawsuits from people who don’t meet « Class A » criteria, which would incur « substantial costs » from the casino and « could adversely affect our ability to operate our casinos and could materially adversely affect our business, financial condition and results of operations, » should the HCA be found invalid or unconstitutional. « The Bally’s Chicago IPO complies with our obligations under the Host Community Agreement with the City of Chicago, » a Bally’s spokesperson told Fox News Digital in a statement. The Chicago Mayor’s Office and Illinois Gaming Commission did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request to comment.

  • Blunt book excerpt lays out how Kamala Harris campaign lost the Joe Rogan interview

An excerpt from a new book about the 2024 presidential election shed new light on how former Vice President Kamala Harris’ proposed interview with podcast giant Joe Rogan fell apart. »Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for The White House, » from authors Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, provided a play-by-play of negotiations between the Rogan and Harris camps to secure Harris’ appearance on the podcast. The dialogue proved fruitless and cost the ex-vice president’s campaign, especially as then-candidate Donald Trump secured a Rogan interview that went viral. »Trump spent three hours with Rogan in an interview that instantly went viral. The contrast amounted to a ‘traumatic event,’ said one Harris aide, ‘that I will never forget.’ »ROGAN REFLECTS ON PODCAST INTERVIEW WITH FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP: ‘GOT THIS ABILITY TO JUST KEEP GOING’Rogan confirmed in late October – just after publishing his sit-down with Trump – that he had been in negotiations with the Harris team for an interview, noting that talks had come to stand still because of Harris’ demands. At the time, he expressed that he was still open to a future interview, and relayed that the Harris camp hadn’t canceled either. Following the Trump’s election victory, Harris’ team suggested that the president’s interview was the factor that killed negotiations. « We were hoping to fit it in around that but ultimately weren’t able to do it, » Harris campaign senior advisor Stephanie Cutter said on « Pod Save America. » « As it turns out, that was the day that Trump was taping his Joe Rogan [appearance], which they had never confirmed to us. We just kind of figured that out in the lead-up to it. »Rogan went on to endorse then-candidate Trump on the eve of the election. The section from « Fight » shed more light on what happened, alleging that initial negotiations held between Harris deputy campaign manager Rob Flaherty and Rogan’s reps were rocky. According to the book, Rogan sent them his list of interview conditions on Oct. 11, which included, « no staff in the studio, no topic restrictions, and Harris would have to sign a waiver. »Additionally, « Harris would have to come to Austin, Texas, » according to the Rogan team, though they signaled there was some slight leeway on this condition.JOE ROGAN TELLS TRUMP THE ‘WILD S—‘ HE SAYS FUELED HIS POPULARITY DURING THREE HOUR PODCAST INTERVIEWThe Harris campaign responded, saying that « Harris would be happy to talk about social media censorship, weed, and other issues they thought would be of most interest to his listeners. » However, Rogan disagreed. As the book said, « Joe just wants to talk about the economy, the border, and abortion. »Then the dispute over where Harris would meet Rogan ensued. Flaherty proposed an interview in Michigan, where the then-vice president would be on the campaign trail. « No-go, the Rogan team said after reaching the host on a weeklong hunting trip. Austin or nothing, » Parnes and Allen wrote. According to their book, « Harris had less than zero reason to be in Texas, » as « she was in battleground-or-bust mode. » »Plus, a detour to Texas might smell like desperation to the press and a waste of money to donors, » the authors also noted. Apparently, Harris campaign chief Jennifer O’Malley Dillon found a solution, telling Rogan’s team that Harris would travel « to Houston for a rally—under the cover of visiting a state with one of the nation’s most restrictive abortion laws—to put her in proximity to Austin » where she could go on the show. OVER 10 MILLION VIEWERS WATCHED FOX NEWS’ INAUGURATION COVERAGE, CRUSHING ALL OTHER NETWORKSHarris flew to the state under the auspices of fighting for reproductive rights, though Allen and Parnes wrote, « Only a few people knew the real reason: the whole Houston rally was built to put her in proximity to Rogan. »Despite Harris making this concession, Rogan’s team had more demands that seemed to doom the meeting. When Flaherty mentioned Harris going to Rogan’s studio on Oct. 25, they dodged again. « Wish we had known about this sooner, because he has the 25th blocked out as a personal day, » the Rogan team said. When Flaherty countered with Saturday morning, the podcast host’s people replied, « Only if it’s before 8:30 a.m. » The excerpt appeared to suggest that message all but killed the talks between the two camps. The book alleged that shortly afterward, the Harris camp found out that Rogan spoke with Trump on his « personal day. » The work mentioned that Harris aides « made a final stab, offering to let Rogan talk with the vice president in Washington, D.C. » However, « Rogan’s team balked, citing the Austin-only condition. » Allen and Parnes quoted Flaherty telling Rogan’s people, « You get one trip to Texas within three weeks of the election. You don’t get two. »Reps for Harris’ campaign did not immediately reply to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

  • Anti-Trump FBI agent responsible for opening Jack Smith elector case against president: Whistleblower

EXCLUSIVE: WASHINGTON—A previously identified anti-Trump FBI agent allegedly broke protocol and played a critical role in opening and advancing the bureau’s original investigation related to the 2020 election, tying President Donald Trump to the probe without sufficient predication, whistleblower disclosures obtained by Sen. Chuck Grassley revealed. That investigation into Trump was formally opened at the FBI on April 13, 2022, and was known inside the bureau as « Arctic Frost, » Fox News Digital has learned. EX-FBI OFFICIAL WHO SHUT DOWN HUNTER BIDEN LINES OF INVESTIGATION VIOLATED HATCH ACT WITH ANTI-TRUMP POSTS Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Chairman Ron Johnson shared internal FBI emails and predicating documents — legally protected whistleblower disclosures — exclusively with Fox News Digital. The senators say the documents prove the genesis of the federal election interference case brought against Trump began at the hands of FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault. Fox News Digital exclusively reported in 2024 that Thibault had been fired from the FBI after he violated the Hatch Act in his political posts on social media. Previous whistleblowers claimed that Thibault had shown a « pattern of active public partisanship, » which likely affected investigations involving Trump and Hunter Biden. Grassley first publicly revealed the existence of the whistleblower disclosures during the Senate Judiciary Committee’s confirmation hearing for Trump’s nominee to serve as FBI director, Kash Patel, on Thursday. One email, obtained and reviewed by Fox News Digital, revealed Thibault communicating with a subordinate agent on Feb. 14, 2022.

Thibault said: « Here is draft opening language we discussed, » and attached material that would later become part of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s elector case. Another email, sent by Thibault on Feb. 24, 2022, to a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, John Crabb, states: « I had a discussion with the case team and we believe there to be predication to include former President of the United States Donald J. Trump as a predicated subject. » Sources told Fox News Digital, though, that Thibault took the action to open the investigation and involve Trump, despite being unauthorized to open criminal investigations in his role — only special agents have the authority to open criminal investigations. Another email, sent on the same day, notes that he would seek approval from Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray to open the case. Next, an email on Feb. 25, 2022, sent by a subordinate agent, Michelle Ball, to Thibault states that they added Trump and others as a criminal subject to the case. Thibault responded: « Perfect. » The fifth email, reviewed by Fox News Digital, reveals Thibault emailing a version of an investigative opening for approval. However, this email did not include Trump as a criminal subject. The sixth email, from April 11, 2022, shows Thibault approving the opening of Arctic Frost, and the next email, on April 13, 2022, was from an FBI agent to Thibault stating that the FBI deputy director approved its opening. Another email reviewed by Fox News Digital shows Thibault emailing DOJ official John Crabb notifying him that the elector case was approved. Crabb responded, « Thanks a lot. Let’s talk next week. » »Between March 22 and April 13, other versions of the document opening the investigation existed, because a ninth email shows that the FBI General Counsel’s office made edits on March 25, » Grassley said during Patel’s confirmation hearing Thursday. « Was Trump still removed as an investigative subject?  If so, which Justice Department and FBI officials – other than Jack Smith – later added him for prosecution? » The email records appear to show that an official in the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section, Richard Pilger, reviewed and approved the FBI’s Arctic Frost investigation, authorizing DOJ to move forward with a full field criminal and grand jury investigation that ultimately transformed into Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Trump-elector case. Grassley, in 2021, published a report which raised concerns regarding Pilger’s record at DOJ.Fox News Digital first reported in July 2022 that Grassley warned Attorney General Merrick Garland that Thibault and Pilger were « deeply involved in the decisions to open and pursue election-related investigations against President Trump. »GRASSLEY PRESSES DOJ, FBI FOR TRANSPARENCY ON ‘PARTISAN’ POLITICIZATION OF AGENCIES, HUNTER BIDEN PROBEAt the time, whistleblowers told Grassley that the Thibault-Pilger investigation’s predicating document was based on information from « liberal nonprofit American Oversight. » In the investigation’s opening memo sent to the upper levels of the DOJ for approval, however, whistleblowers claimed Thibault and Pilger « removed or watered-down material connected to the aforementioned left-wing entities that existed in previous versions and recommended that a full investigation — not a preliminary investigation — be approved. »Based on Smith’s scope memo, Grassley and Johnson, in 2022, wrote that the Thibault-Pilger investigation was included in the special counsel’s jurisdiction. They also pointed out that Smith had a prior relationship with Pilger. Smith was in charge of the DOJ’s Public Integrity Unit while Pilger was in charge of the Election Crimes Branch.Grassley and Johnson, in 2022, began sounding the alarm that Special Counsel Jack Smith was « overseeing an investigation that was allegedly defective in its initial steps and an investigation which his former subordinate [Pilger] was involved in opening. » Former Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Smith, a former Justice Department official, as special counsel in November 2022. Smith, a former assistant U.S. attorney and chief to the DOJ’s public integrity section, led the investigation into Trump’s retention of classified documents after leaving the White House and whether the former president obstructed the federal government’s investigation into the matter. HOUSE WEAPONIZATION PANEL RELEASES 17,000-PAGE REPORT EXPOSING ‘TWO-TIERED SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT’Smith also was tasked with overseeing the investigation into whether Trump or other officials and entities interfered with the peaceful transfer of power following the 2020 presidential election, including the certification of the Electoral College vote on Jan. 6, 2021. Smith charged Trump in both cases, but Trump pleaded not guilty. The classified records case was dismissed in July 2024 by U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida Judge Aileen Cannon, who ruled that Smith was unlawfully appointed as special counsel. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPSmith charged Trump in the U.S. District Court for Washington, D.C., in his 2020 election case, but after Trump was elected president, Smith sought to dismiss the case. Judge Tanya Chutkan granted that request. Grassley, during the confirmation hearing on Thursday, said he is requesting « the production of all records on this matter to better understand the full fact pattern and whether other records exist. » This is a developing story. • Super Bowl champion hopes fans appreciate Chiefs’ greatness, not hate on it

The Kansas City Chiefs haterade is being served triple this year after reaching their third consecutive Super Bowl. The back-to-back reigning champions are one win away from becoming the first team to ever three-peat, and despite putting their name among the greatest dynasties in sports, a large majority of football fans can’t wait for it to end.SIGN UP FOR TUBI AND STREAM SUPER BOWL LIX FOR FREEHowever, one former NFL great has no issues with the Chiefs’ success, knowing how difficult it is to do what the Chiefs have been doing.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMClay Matthews, who won a Super Bowl, says it’s easier for him, as opposed to the average fan, to appreciate the Chiefs’ greatness rather than hate on it. »I don’t think people understand how difficult it is. Unlike maybe in some other sports where there’s no salary cap, and certain teams dominate football, because of the salary cap, because of the parody within the league, it’s so difficult to stay on top, » Matthews told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. « And for [Tom] Brady to do that for so long, and now [Patrick] Mahomes to do that within his first seven years, it’s remarkable. »So I look at it as just enjoy the show, and I hope everybody is as well. »Matthews knows how difficult it really is, and how grateful the Chiefs should be, considering fans in the early 2010s thought the Aaron Rodgers-led Packers would be the next great dynasty. Matthews called Rodgers « arguably the greatest talent » at the quarterback position, but even they couldn’t get over the hump more than once. »We were only able to make one Super Bowl. … So I firsthand know how difficult it is to get back to the Super Bowl. So for him to be able to do this year and year out, it’s almost like a cheat code, but the reality is it takes so much more than just us at home saying it’s unfair, » Matthews added.EX-NFL STAR CLAY MATTHEWS DISCUSSES RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERSHIP AS A FATHER, RAISING SONS TO BE HUNTERS »I grew up in the Kobe [Bryant] era, the Lakers era where they were winning championships, and I’m sure everybody was hating. When the Yankees were winning, I was hating on them because I was a Dodgers fan, » the Southern California native continued. « So whereas I wasn’t involved in professional athletics, it’s a lot easier to hate on the couch as a fan. « Being a former player and, you know, football as well is just such a difficult sport. I mean, the physicality of it, the war of attrition, everything that goes into it to get to this point right now, it’s truly remarkable. So, yes, I do appreciate it a lot more than perhaps others who haven’t played the game do. »Maybe it will be a different story, though, if the Chiefs go to four in a row.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

  • Chicago mayor improperly accepting designer gifts like Hugo Boss cuff links, Gucci bag and more: OIG report

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has been accused of not properly documenting designer gifts while also blocking access to the City Hall « gift room, » according to a report from the City of Chicago Office of the Inspector General (OIG).The OIG released the report Wednesday, accusing the Chicago mayor’s office of accepting gifts, including Hugo Boss cuff links, a personalized Montblanc pen, a 2023 U.S. National Soccer Team jersey, a Gucci tote bag, a Kate Spade red purse and Carrucci size 14 shoes from Feb. 2, 2022, through March 20, 2024.The report notes that almost 70% of the 380 logged gifts received from Feb. 2, 2022, to March 20, 2024, do not list the identity of the donor. The city received the national soccer team jersey June 16, 2023, from a representative from Nike. On Oct. 3, 2023, the city received Airpods, a tote bag and a notepad from an executive with the U.S. Conference of Mayors.CHICAGO RESIDENTS SLAM THE ‘STUPIDITY’ OF MAYOR BRANDON JOHNSON’S LIBERAL POLICIES DURING CITY COUNCIL MEETINGBut other entries, like the Hugo Boss cuff links and personalized Montblanc pen received June 12, 2023, and a Gucci tote bag and crossbody bag received March 18, 2024, fail to include information on the identity of who provided the gift.Personnel from the OIG went to the fifth floor of City Hall Nov. 8, 2024, to request access to the gift room, unannounced, to conduct an inspection of the manner in which gifts to the city are stored and to audit the gifts and review controls for access to the gift room.Instead, the OID was met by Chicago Police officers, the report noted. After explaining the OIG’s request to view the gift room, OIG personnel were told to wait in a lobby by an elevator.TRUMP SUPPORTERS RIP CHICAGO MAYOR TO HIS FACE JUST DAYS BEFORE CITY COUNCIL REJECTS HIS TAX HIKEWhile waiting, the OIG spoke with senior members of the mayor’s office regarding the request, then presented a written request to access the room. After further delay, the mayor’s office said it spoke to counsel, who said OIG would not be granted access to the gift room that day. To access the room, the OIG was told it would have to make an appointment, the report said.CHICAGO OFFICIAL SLAMS BRANDON JOHNSON’S NEW ICE GUIDELINES: ‘WHO IS THE MAYOR TRYING TO PROTECT’Once the OIG was denied, it engaged in further conversations with the Department of Law for access to the gift room, and it was it was told it not be granted access. The OIG said in its report that gift disclosures required by the Governmental Ethics Ordinance (GEO) promote transparency and accountability. »When gifts are changing hands — perhaps literally — in a windowless room in City Hall, there is no opportunity for oversight and public scrutiny of the propriety of such gifts, the identities and intentions of the gift-givers, or what it means for gifts like whiskey, jewelry, handbags, and size 14 men’s shoes to be accepted ‘on behalf of the City,’ » the report noted. Some of the gifts were accepted while former Mayor Lori Lightfoot was in office, while others were accepted after Johnson took the oath of office.Johnson told reporters during a press conference Wednesday the OIG’s report was a mischaracterization of what happened. »These are gifts to the city. They’re logged, » Johnson told reporters. « The characterization of how this report came out is misguided, and, again, we’ll make sure that our team gives you the access that you need so that you can see the gifts that are given to the city. »The mayor said there is a process everyone must go through, adding that nobody is above the law, not even the OIG.As for the gifts, Johnson said there are times he will go to a community function and receive a gift bag as a token of appreciation. »I don’t want people to think there’s some room in city government where there’s just a wall full of belts and socks and shoes and fancy hats, » Johnson said, noting he has actually received hats. « With all due respect, sometimes I believe that people chase down a wall with nothing on it. There’s a log. It’s there. It’s been there for years. »Johnson also said he has never seen the gift room that the OIG referred to. »I don’t think there’s a room, [but] if people want a tour of this room, I’ll sign up because I’ve never been to it myself, » he said.

A Texas school district has acknowledged footage of one of its administrators telling an undercover journalist posing as a parent to change a transgender child’s birth certificate to compete in girls sports. The Irving Independent School District in Irving, Texas, has provided a statement to Fox News Digital addressing the recent video of Reny Lizardo, the executive director of campus operations, giving this guidance, which was obtained by Accuracy in Media. The statement indicates Lizardo has resigned from his position. « In Irving ISD, we are committed to upholding the requirements of state and federal laws, especially as it pertains to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, and we will cooperate with any investigation initiated by relevant authorities, » the statement said. SIGN UP FOR TUBI AND STREAM SUPER BOWL LIX FOR FREE »We are aware of the unauthorized video footage circulating on social media of an individual connected with Irving ISD. The videos were obtained under false pretenses by an individual who posed as a concerned parent and additional individuals who posed as family friends of the employee pictured. « The individuals also held themselves out as members of the media, but were not credentialed as such, constituting a breach of security. In addition, the footage has been edited and is an incomplete representation of the entire conversation, making it difficult to properly assess its probative value. »In the footage, Lizardo said, « It’s not illegal if you don’t get caught, » with regard to changing the gender on a child’s birth certificate, and « if you can get that done, and you turn us a birth certificate that says ‘this gender,’ that’s the gender we go with. » While discussing potential repercussions of the discussion, Lizardo suggested pleading plausible deniability.  The district insists Lizardo’s handling of the situation does not reflect the values and protocols of the school district. Fox News Digital has reached out to Lizardo for comment.HOW TRANSGENDERISM IN SPORTS SHIFTED THE 2024 ELECTION AND IGNITED A NATIONAL COUNTERCULTURE »We want to reiterate that Irving ISD complies with all state and federal laws, and all employees are expected to adhere to any and all legal and ethical standards. The individual identified was acting outside of his role as it relates to legal and regulatory expertise. While the matter continues to be under investigation, the individual identified in the video has tendered his resignation. » The district’s statement concludes by claiming all of its athletes participate in the proper gender category. « We can also confirm that all Irving ISD student-athletes are participating in their sport in accordance with the sex they were assigned at birth, » the district said. « Irving ISD is unwavering in our commitment to the safety and well-being of all of our students and staff. We remain focused on our primary function to maintain educational excellence and foster the full potential of our students. » Texas is one of 25 states in the U.S. with a law that prevents or restricts transgender athletes from competing against girls and women. In June 2023, the state passed the Save Women’s Sports Act that prohibits transgender athletes from competing in girls and women’s sports and only allows students to compete in the gender category listed on their birth certificate. The law only allows schools to recognize changes made to birth certificates that were made to correct a clerical error.Texas Gov. Greg Abbott addressed the footage involving Lizardo in a post on X and called for him to be fired and investigated. « This Irving ISD Administrator should be fired on the spot. Vice President JD Vance said the Trump administration is doing exactly what it said it would with regard to the nationwide U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids targeting migrants who have committed crimes.Vance told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday the White House has an « ambitious » goal of getting criminal migrants off the street at a rate of nearly 2,000 per day. »If you think [about it], we’ve got 20 plus million illegal aliens in this country. Do not come to the United States and enter illegally,’ » said U.S. Border Patrol Special Operations Supervisor Hamid Nikseresht after more than 80 illegal migrants were loaded onto a C-17 military plane and deported from El Paso, Texas, back to Ecuador.Vance took aim at the hysteria from the left over the mass deportation efforts, pointing to Trump’s win in November and his « mandate » from the American people. »Now he’s doing it, » the former Ohio senator said about Trump’s immigration crackdown. « That’s how democratic politics in this country works and thank God for that. »The vice president made a shocking admission about the arrests of criminal migrants, telling Hannity the United States government, in some cases, knew their names and addresses. « We just needed to send somebody to go to their house and get them the hell out of the country, » Vance said. « We’ve known at least that they had violent criminal backgrounds. And we haven’t done anything until about eight days ago when Donald Trump became the President of the United States again. It really should shock the conscience of the American people. »

  • Washington AG stands by Costco, blasts Republican attorneys general threatening DEI crackdown

Washington state’s attorney general is standing by Costco as the retail giant resists conservative pressure to ditch its diversity, equity and inclusion practices. This week, 19 Republican attorneys general sent a letter to Costco, urging the retail giant to end « all unlawful discrimination imposed by the company » through its « divisive » DEI policies. The attorney general for Washington state, where Costco’s headquarters are located, defended the company and fired back at the Republican effort. »I’m surprised by my Republican colleagues’ eagerness to weaponize the government against business, » Washington Attorney General Nick Brown, a Democrat, told Fox News Digital. « We don’t believe in punishing private companies for making decisions that protect and enhance their workforce. »COSTCO SHAREHOLDERS REJECT ANTI-DEI MEASUREIowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, who led the 19-state effort against Costco alongside Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach, vowed to « look at all available options » to ensure the business is following federal and state laws regarding race-based or gender identity-based hiring practices. »Costco needs to show us the proof that they are following the law because they have public statements that cause us great concern, » Bird said Wednesday to Fox News. « Many other big retailers have changed their policies and are now following federal law, just like President Trump is doing with his executive orders rooting out DEI, so they need to show us they’re following the law. »Attorneys general from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska and North Dakota also signed the letter, which gives Costco 30 days to respond. The letter comes on the heels of Trump signing an executive order targeting DEI in the federal government and encouraging the private sector to end these « illegal » practices.TRUMP’S DISMANTLING OF DEI IS DEEPER AND BIGGER THAN YOU KNOWCOSTCO BOARD MEMBERS DONATED HEAVILY TO DEMOCRATS IN 2024 ELECTION CYCLEThe order tasks the attorneys general with rooting out sectors and organizations that allegedly engage in discriminatory DEI practices. Recommendations will be made for potential lawsuits against violators.Major companies like Target, McDonald’s and Walmart have backed off from their DEI policies in recent months amid growing scrutiny over these policies. Costco has thus far resisted these challenges and defended DEI values as critical to the success of its business. « We owe our success to the more than 300,000 employees who serve our members every day. It is important that they all feel included and appreciated and that they transmit these values to our customers, » Costco board chair Hamilton « Tony » E. James said at the shareholder meeting Thursday. At that meeting, Costco shareholders overwhelmingly rejected an anti-DEI proposal brought by a conservative shareholder group to evaluate the risks posed by its DEI practices to the company’s bottom line.James said that the company’s « commitment to inclusion » neither compromises merit nor includes quotas or systematic preferences.WALMART FACING BACKLASH OVER DEI POLICY REVERSAL AS SHAREHOLDERS AND DEM OFFICIALS URGE THEM TO RECONSIDERConstitutional law attorney and Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley told Fox News Digital on Wednesday that, « absent an unlawful policy, businesses have the right to make their own employment decisions within the parameters of the law. » »That includes mandatory training on DEI. Customers obviously have the right to make their own judgment in purchases, as shown by the response to Bud Light and Disney. However, state AGs need to be mindful of the countervailing speech and other rights afforded to corporations and organizations, » he added in an emailed statement.Fox News Digital reached out to the offices of the remaining 30 state attorneys general that did not sign off on the letter to Costco to ask if they would be taking any action, for or against the business, after Trump’s executive order. A spokesperson for Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita told Fox News Digital, « Attorney General Rokita stands firmly against unlawful DEI practices and supports President Trump’s actions to end them in corporate America. »Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown’s office referred Fox News Digital to his letter, co-signed by 13 Democratic attorneys general earlier this month, urging Walmart to keep its commitment to DEI. The letter was also signed by the attorneys general of California, Connecticut, Hawai’i, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.Iowa AG Bird did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment by publication time.Fox News’ Jamie Joseph and Taylor Penley contributed to this article.

  • U.S. immigration website stops accepting applicants for Biden program in Trump crackdown

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website is no longer accepting forms needed to sponsor migrants as part of the Biden administration’s defunct parole program for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans (CHNV).The 2023 program, which allowed certain migrants to apply for U.S. entry and stay for up to two years, was shut down on President Donald Trump’s first day in office. As of August 2024, nearly 530,000 people were granted parole through the program, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).TRUMP DHS REPEALS KEY MAYORKAS MEMO LIMITING ICE AGENTS, ORDERS PAROLE REVIEWRequirements included having a U.S.-based supporter, passing security vetting, and meeting other criteria. The « Online Request to be a Supporter and Declaration of Financial Support » form, an avenue to meet one of the main requirements, was bumped from the website, as of Wednesday night. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently removed expedited removal restrictions and allowed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to review migrants’ parole status – which may include changing it.TRUMP’S ICE NABS CHILD SEX OFFENDERS AMONG 530+ ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CAUGHT IN SINGLE DAYA memo obtained by Fox News Digital noted parole is a « positive exercise of enforcement discretion to which no alien is entitled » and that it should « not be regarded as an admission of the alien, » according to previous reporting. While the Biden administration claimed the program would expand legal pathways to citizenship and decrease illegal border crossings, Republicans contended it was an abuse of limited parole power.Prior to Trump’s reelection, the program was temporarily paused amid fraud claims. An internal review was ordered, leading to the DHS adding enhanced vetting measures for U.S.-based supporters in August 2024.ICE and CBP officials have been tasked with compiling a list of instructions, policies and procedures related to parole, reviewing them, and creating a plan to phase out any that are not in accord with the statute.Fox News Digital’s Adam Shaw contributed to this story.
