  • Comedian Wanda Sykes argues that modern comics are terrified of critics for saying wrong jokes

Comedian Wanda Sykes said in a Monday interview that many comedians are scared to tell certain jokes out of fear, but argued it is important to say them anyway.

Charlamagne tha God and the rest of the « Breakfast Club » radio show hosts interviewed Sykes and recalled her prolific career in comedy. Sykes got her big break writing for « The Chris Rock Show, » where she won an Emmy in 1999, then went on to have a stellar career in stand-up as well as recurring guest roles on comedic shows like « Curb Your Enthusiasm. » She also hosted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2009 and was named one of the « 25 Funniest People in America » by Entertainment Weekly.

« The thing I used to love about ‘The Chris Rock Show’ — it was just full of uncomfortable truths, » Charlamagne recalled. « Even that whole era was full of uncomfortable truths, right? Do you think comedy is still allowed to be that honest? Or are we in an era now where everybody wants jokes, but they don’t want the truth that comes [with it]? »

« No. You know what? I think you’re allowed to do it, but it’s just who wants to do it?  You know what I’m saying? » Sykes replied, who has not shied away from political hot takes herself. « If I’m trying to fill an arena, you know what I’m saying, you can’t be that common. You got to be you got to appeal to the masses. And sometimes, right now, what the masses want to hear, it’s ugly, you know. »

MARLON WAYANS DECLARES WAR ON CANCEL CULTURE WITH PROVOCATIVE ‘SCARY MOVIE 6’ TRAILER RELEASE

« I’m glad you said that. I’m [going to] do it, » Jess Hilarious, a standup comedian herself, replied, « But when I do me, when I do funny, people be getting mad. »

« Who gives a f—? You can’t do it for them. You got to do it for you. You got to say what you want. And hey, if what I want to say and what makes me feel, you know, good about my gift that I have, if I’m only going to get maybe 600 people, then those are the 600 people that that, you know, you’re supposed to be speaking to. »

« But do people get offended too fast? » co-host DJ Envy asked. « Where it’s like, you know, back then jokes just flew. It didn’t matter. You made fun of everybody. It could be the crippled person. It could be to this person. It doesn’t matter. People laugh. Now it doesn’t seem like they laugh. They look for a reason to say, ‘You know what? We’re going to boycott your next show.’ »

Sykes argued that many people like to play the critic or moral police, but they often fail to understand where the comedian is coming from, willfully misinterpreting them in the worst possible way.

« A lot of people like to be the critic. They want to be the police, » Sykes said. « It’s like if you say something, and it might offend you, but you got to look at where that person is coming from. You know? Maybe their life, their perspective is different from what you know – ‘Yeah, you’re offended, but you’re not standing in my shoes. You don’t see it from my perspective!’ – So, I think that’s what we’ve gotten away from. »

VINCE VAUGHN CALLS OUT LATE-NIGHT SHOWS ALL FEELING ‘THE SAME,’ BECOMING ‘AGENDA-BASED’ SCOLDING

Another co-host asked whether she had discerned a fine line on the issue of punching up versus punching down, which essentially is the dynamic where people discern whether it is socially acceptable to make fun of a person or group by assessing whether they are high status or low status.

« I always try to punch up because I feel like – but that’s me, » Sykes said, noting she herself is a Black woman and gay. Nonetheless, she said, « If you punch down, if it’s funny, I’m going to laugh. »

The difference, she argued, is whether a joke that is punching down comes from a place of love/familiarity or from genuine malice toward a person or group, citing a famous joke from Chris Rock about certain men in the Black community.

  • Supreme Court could end the radical transgender agenda in our schools

Early in March, the United States Supreme Court in Mirabelli v. Bonta dramatically shifted the balance of power between the ideologically driven bureaucrats running America’s public schools and the parents and students they are to serve. The court was unmistakably clear — as it was last year in Mahmoud v. Taylor — parents possess the fundamental right to raise and educate their children. Period.  Schools should not facilitate a student’s « gender transition » without parental notification and consent.

Just days after Mirabelli, the left-leaning Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously held in Anderson v. Crouch that West Virginia’s decision to exclude sex-change surgeries from Medicaid coverage did not violate the Fourteenth Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. Relying on the Supreme Court’s landmark 2025 decision in United States v. Skrmetti, the Fourth Circuit found West Virginia’s Medicaid program did not discriminate on the basis of sex but was a medical-based policy applied equally to both sexes seeking certain treatments for gender dysphoria.

The court further held that Medicaid did not discriminate on the basis of a person’s claimed transgender status: a person — even one claiming to be transgender — could still receive coverage for a hysterectomy to treat uterine cancer, but not for the same procedure to treat gender dysphoria.

The ruling in Anderson is monumental. Unlike Skrmetti, which addressed only bans on medical treatments for gender dysphoria in children, Anderson applies to adults, as well. This decision is also a harbinger of the inevitable collapse of the destructive, ideological regime in public education that forces women to share bathrooms, locker rooms and athletic competitions with men.

PARENTS, NOT BUREAUCRATS, RAISE AMERICA’S CHILDREN AND THE SUPREME COURT AGREES

After all, policies mandating that intimate spaces and sports be separated on the basis of biological sex apply equally to both sexes — precisely the logic the Fourth Circuit endorsed in upholding West Virginia’s Medicaid exclusion.

These policies do not single out individuals who claim to be transgender. No student, regardless of motivation, should use a locker room, bathroom, or play on a sports team designated for the opposite sex. A boy who seeks access to the girls’ bathroom because he fears bullying is subject to the same rule as a boy who wants to use the girls’ room because he believes he is a girl.

To be sure, common-sense policies dictate separate bathrooms, locker rooms and sports teams for males and females, just as West Virginia’s Medicaid restriction in Anderson is based on sound medical policy that states have a legitimate evidence-based interest in controlling Medicaid costs and ensuring medical necessity that is not driven by sex discrimination.

WATCHDOG CLAIMS PROOF OF ‘HARM’ NONEXISTENT IN SUIT AGAINST TRUMP’S BAN ON TRANS SURGERIES FOR MINORS

Also telling is the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision less than one year ago in Roe v. Critchfield. That appellate court, hardly a bastion of judicial conservatism, — held that Idaho’s law requiring students to use bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their biological sex violated neither the Equal Protection Clause nor Title IX of the Civil Rights Act.

These important decisions have not been issued in a vacuum. Before the end of June, the Supreme Court will hand down its decision in West Virginia v. BPJ, which squarely presents the question of whether a state violates the Equal Protection Clause or Title IX by separating sports teams on the basis of sex.

The smart money says the court will answer in the negative and may well signal, directly or indirectly, that restrooms and locker rooms can likewise be separated on that basis. Such a ruling would be more than welcome, as it would empower states to pass legislation protecting women’s sports and private spaces without the perpetual threat of litigation from the ACLU and allied advocacy organizations.

SCHOOL BOARD SETTLES WITH BOYS ACCUSED OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT OVER TRANSGENDER STUDENT LOCKER ROOM INCIDENT

Nevertheless, a favorable Supreme Court decision, while a major blow to the transgender agenda in public schools, may not end the war for common sense. Instead, solidly blue states will likely continue to impose policies that eviscerate student privacy and safety, even though they can no longer credibly claim that federal law compels them to do so.

Indeed, parents and students will continue to see situations like the one in New Richmond, Wisconsin, where school administrators told girls that if they were uncomfortable sharing a bathroom or locker room with a member of the opposite sex, the girls should be the ones to find a private alternative.

Fortunately, the Trump administration has taken enforcement action against school districts across the country — including New Richmond and several districts in Northern Virginia — on the grounds that their policies constitute sex discrimination under Title IX.

But federal enforcement alone will not be enough to end this state of affairs once and for all. Students and their families must seize the changing legal landscape and apply maximum pressure. Students and parents must be ever vigilant, challenge school policies, and be willing to take school districts to court for violating sex-based rights guaranteed to students by the Equal Protection Clause and Title IX.

Parents hold the cherished right to parent their children, and children don’t surrender their rights when they walk through the school doors. The time to win this fight is now, and the opportunity has never been greater.

  • Florida county’s Democratic Party chair accused of hitting man in head with bullhorn at ‘No Kings’ protest

The chair of the Hernando County, Florida, Democratic Party was arrested for allegedly hitting a man in the head with a bullhorn during a « No Kings » protest over the weekend.

Brian Stewart, 63, was charged with simple battery and booked into the Hernando County Jail after the incident on Saturday. He was released later that day, jail records show.

Deputies responded at around 10:30 a.m. to the intersection of Mariner and Cortez boulevards, where Stewart allegedly struck a disabled veteran — identified as Thomas Michta in police reports — in the head with a bullhorn. The incident occurred as demonstrators in Hernando County and across the country protested against the Trump administration’s policies, according to WTSP.

Michta told deputies he was walking through the protest when he and Stewart became involved in an argument, the outlet reported.

LATE-NIGHT HOST JIMMY KIMMEL SHOWS UP TO ‘NO KINGS’ PROTEST WITH KIDS, HOLDS ‘ENOUGH ALREADY’ SIGN

The man accused Stewart of striking him during the dispute and reported being in pain, with a visible lump on his head, according to an arrest affidavit, WTSP reported.

Deputies spoke to a witness who said he observed a fight during the protest.

According to the affidavit, video footage captured by the witness and reviewed by deputies showed Stewart using a bullhorn to hit the man in the head and push him in the chest.

After reviewing the video, the witness statement and Stewart’s own admissions, deputies said they developed probable cause to believe Stewart intentionally hit the man and caused bodily harm, the affidavit says.

MAN WEARING INFLATABLE TRUMP COSTUME ALLEGEDLY ATTACKED ON CAMERA AT BLUE STATE ‘NO KINGS’ PROTEST: POLICE

Stewart is scheduled to appear in court on April 27.

The Florida Republican Party called for Stewart to be removed as chair over the incident at the protest.

« Violence and political intimidation have no place in our state, and Floridians deserve better than mere silence from Democrat leadership. Nikki Fried must immediately remove Brian Stewart from his position of leadership in the Florida Democrat Party! » Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power said in a statement to WTSP.

The Florida Democratic Party and the Hernando County chapter said in separate statements that they « condemn violence. »

« We have been made aware that our Chair, Brian Stewart, was arrested after responding to a provocation from a local agitator who threw a drink on him and yelled obscenities at community members during a protest, » the Hernando County Democratic Party said in a statement to the Tampa Bay Times.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Hernando County Democratic Party for additional comment.

  • Teacher of the Year finalist gets 14 years for sexual relationship with student she kept contacting

A former Colorado teacher and a 2025 state Teacher of the Year finalist was sentenced to 14 years in prison after authorities say she engaged in a sexual relationship with a student and reportedly continued contacting him after being criminally charged.

Tera Johnson-Swartz, a 45-year-old writer and former STEM School Highlands Ranch educator, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of cybercrime, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announced on March 19. Officials indicated that the cybercrime charge stemmed from her continued contact with the student.

The former teacher was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old, which was discovered around January 2025 when the student’s parents found texts containing sexually explicit content, according to The Denver Post.

Johnson-Swartz, who had been recognized as one of seven finalists for Colorado’s Teacher of the Year just five months before the investigation, was ultimately charged in two separate cases. The first stemmed from a grand jury probe into the relationship in early 2025 and the second tied to her continued contact with the student.

NEW JERSEY TEACHER WHO SLEPT WITH STUDENTS AT FAMILY BAGEL SHOP LEARNS PRISON SENTENCE

Documents show the relationship started with texting but quickly escalated, with Johnson-Swartz giving the student cigarettes, letting him use her marijuana vape pen, and eventually engaging in a physical relationship, the local outlet reported.

She was reportedly suspended from the school once the allegations surfaced and was later fired and banned from campus.

Less than a month later, the involved student was caught on camera leaving campus and getting into a car that matched Johnson-Swartz’s vehicle, according to CBS. The teen reportedly admitted to investigators that his former teacher had picked him up and driven him to a nearby neighborhood.

The incident sparked an investigation, and in February 2025, detectives with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Johnson-Swartz on charges of kidnapping and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in connection with an inappropriate relationship with a student.

WEST VIRGINIA TEACHER FIRED AFTER ARREST ON CHILD SEX ABUSE CHARGE

Johnson-Swartz secured a $100,000 bond with the assistance of a professional bondsman and was released the following day, the outlet said.

However, over the Fourth of July weekend that year, authorities were alerted by the student’s parents, who reported that the two were still in contact, according to CBS.

The two reportedly encountered one another for two consecutive nights and Johnson-Swartz began calling and texting in the days that followed.

Johnson-Swartz was arrested again. In addition to her prison sentence, she was reportedly ordered to complete six years of sex offender probation after her release, which includes registering as a convicted sex offender.

  • Democratic strategists say 2028 candidate ‘has to be a White guy’: report

Democratic strategists are reportedly pushing for the 2028 presidential candidate to be a « straight, White, Christian man » after recent losses, an Axios report alleged.

« Some top Democrats are quietly debating a fraught question: whether the party’s best bet for winning back the presidency in 2028 is to nominate a man — perhaps a straight, White, Christian man, » Axios reported on Sunday.

« Their fear, divulged with dismay in group chats, at cocktail parties and increasingly in public, is that parts of the electorate are too biased to support a woman or other diverse candidate for president, » the report continued.

MICHELLE OBAMA IS ‘ABSOLUTELY CORRECT’ SAYING AMERICA NOT READY FOR A WOMAN PRESIDENT, DEM LAWMAKER SAYS

The report noted that Democratic strategists have become apprehensive after both former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Vice President Kamala Harris lost to President Donald Trump in their respective campaigns, though most of these comments have happened « behind closed doors. »

« So not discounting the hundreds of other times men have lost…but is it the right thing to nominate a woman? » a national Democratic strategist told Axios.

Axios acknowledged that this concern would discount several high-profile candidates for 2028, including Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Arizona Sen. Ruben Gallego, California Rep. Ro Khanna and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

NANCY PELOSI RESPONDS TO MICHELLE OBAMA’S CLAIM THAT AMERICA ISN’T READY FOR WOMAN PRESIDENT, ASKS ‘WHY NOT?’

« Democratic strategists have put it bluntly, with several saying a version of ‘It has to be a White guy,’ » Axios reported.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Democratic National Committee for comment.

Of the potential 2028 presidential candidates, Axios noted only Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly and California Gov. Gavin Newsom qualify as « a straight, White, Christian man. »

MODERATE DEMOCRATS LOOKING PAST KAMALA HARRIS FOR 2028, SUGGESTING PARTY ‘START OVER’

The report followed former first lady Michelle Obama’s past comments insisting that the U.S. was « not ready » for a woman president.

« That’s why I’m like, don’t even look at me about running, because you all are lying. You’re not ready for a woman. You are not, » she said in November.

Obama doubled down on those comments during a podcast appearance in January.

« There are men out there that were not [going to] vote for a woman, » she said.

  • Homeland Security vows deportation operations ‘will continue’ as ICE agents help TSA, agency defunded

FIRST ON FOX: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are continuing deportation operations despite a lapse in federal funding and being deployed to assist with massive airport security lines across the country, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security told Fox News Digital.

According to the department, ICE officers continuing immigration enforcement operations nationwide arrested child predators, rapists, drug traffickers and a member of the violent Salvadoran MS-13 gang over the weekend.

This comes as ICE officers were seen assisting the understaffed Transportation Security Administration and airport staff at terminals across the country, including New York City, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Atlanta and New Orleans. On Sunday, Trump border czar Tom Homan told CBS News that ICE agents will « continue a nice presence » at airports until they « feel like they’re 100% … in a posture where they can do no normal operations. »

DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis addressed concerns that ICE would not be able to sustain its normal operations while assisting TSA by telling Fox News Digital that ICE « will continue arresting public safety threats from our communities and will not allow the Democrats to slow us down from making America safe again. »

LEAVITT CALLS ON CONGRESS TO END EASTER RECESS TO WORK ON DHS SHUTDOWN

Bis said that « over the weekend, ICE arrested more dangerous criminals, including an MS-13 gang member, child predators, rapists and drug traffickers. »

In the New York City area, where ICE was seen at John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty airports, the agency arrested Pierre Bell, a criminal illegal from Jamaica, who was convicted of rape in the Bronx.

In Illinois, where dozens of ICE agents were seen assisting TSA at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, ICE agents arrested Miguel Benitez-Campos, from Mexico, who was convicted of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon in Cook County.

Two criminal illegal aliens were also arrested in Harris County, which is home to Houston, the largest city in Texas, where two airports experienced massive delays and saw a heavy ICE presence. ICE officers arrested Jose Santos Vigil-Mendez, from El Salvador, and Jorge Luis Carrera-Hernandez, from Mexico. Vigil-Mendez was convicted of deadly conduct, and Carrera-Hernandez was convicted of deadly conduct and possession of a controlled substance.

WATCH: DEMOCRATS TOLD AMERICANS TO FEAR ICE, HERE’S HOW AIRPORT TRAVELERS ACTUALLY FEEL

Meanwhile, in Alexandria, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C., ICE arrested Pedro Antonio Luna, from El Salvador, who was convicted of three counts of aggravated sexual battery of a victim under 13 years old and aggravated sexual battery by a family member of a child under 15 years old. This comes as nearby Fairfax County, Virginia, is embroiled in a scandal involving 19-year-old Salvadoran illegal alien Israel Flores Ortiz, who is accused of groping several minor girls at a high school he was attending.

DHS also shared that over the weekend it arrested six illegal aliens with serious criminal convictions in California.

ICE officers arrested Luis Calderon-Martinez, who, according to DHS, is a Salvadoran illegal alien and a member of the MS-13 gang. Calderon-Martinez has several felony convictions in New Jersey, Arizona and California, including conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine, carjacking, hit-and-run, property damage and driving under the influence.

In Fullerton and Santa Barbara, California, near Los Angeles, ICE also arrested Angel Navarro-Camarillo and Higinio Gonzalez Machorro, both from Mexico. Navarro-Camarillo is a registered sex offender and active gang member. He was convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old. Gonzalez Machorro was convicted of rape by use of drugs.

Just north of San Francisco, ICE also arrested Alfredo Luna-Ruiz, also from Mexico, who is convicted of false imprisonment, domestic violence, providing a false ID to a peace officer and driving under the influence in Sonoma County, California.

This comes as Homeland Security continues to undergo a lapse in funding due to disagreements in Congress about immigration enforcement operations. Democrats have made resumed funding for the department contingent on changes to ICE and Border Patrol’s enforcement tactics.

AIRPORTS BEG FLIGHT PASSENGERS TO CHANGE THEIR TRAVEL HABITS AFTER DHS SHUTDOWN JAMS LINES

Bis told Fox News Digital that « Democrats must stop playing political games and reopen DHS now. »

She added that TSA « is extremely grateful to the patriotic men and women of ICE who have deployed to airports that are facing a high number of callouts because of the Democrats’ shutdown. »

« At the direction of President Trump and the Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, TSA officers should begin seeing paychecks as early as today, » said Bis, adding, « Working without pay forced more than 500 officers to leave TSA and thousands were forced to call out. ICE will continue working with TSA for as long as the President determines necessary to ensure Americans are able to travel safely nationwide. »

  • Nancy Guthrie disappearance sparked harrowing 12-hour odyssey for Savannah

Nancy Guthrie’s suspicious disappearance sparked a harrowing, 12-hour odyssey for her daughter, « Today » co-host Savannah Guthrie — and it’s still not over nearly two months later.

In an emotional « Dateline » interview with NBC colleague Hoda Kotb, she described the frantic moments after learning her 84-year-old mother had vanished from her Arizona home, prompting a desperate cross-country trip to be with family.

The ordeal began after what had been an ordinary evening with her children at « Today » co-host Carson Daly’s home, she told Kotb last week.

« We had a beautiful, fun night together, » she said, describing the visit.

SAVANNAH GUTHRIE BREAKS DOWN OVER POSSIBILITY HER MOM WAS TARGETED BECAUSE OF HER FAME, APOLOGIZES TO FAMILY

On Sunday, her husband Mike Feldman returned from a golf outing.

« We were just saying hi, putting our stuff down, and the kids were running around — and my sister called me, » she said.

Their mother, who has debilitating back pain and other mobility issues, was missing, she said.

SHERIFF WARNS NANCY GUTHRIE SUSPECT COULD ‘ABSOLUTELY’ STRIKE AGAIN, HINTS AT MOTIVE

It was around 2 p.m. in New York and noon back in Tucson. Savannah told her sister, Annie, to call 911. She already had.

Pima County deputies were at the home — where they found concerning evidence: blood on the front porch, the backdoors propped open, Nancy’s valuables undisturbed but no sign of her whereabouts.

Annie and her husband, Tommaso « Tommy » Cioni, had already called local hospitals, hoping she’d been picked up by paramedics, to no avail. Savannah called them too.

NANCY GUTHRIE UPDATE: RETIRED K9 OFFICER SAYS DECISION NOT TO USE CADAVER DOGS ‘DEFIES LOGIC’

« That was at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, but I was on a plane at 7:30 to Phoenix, » she told Kotb. « And then a two-hour drive down to Tucson, and I probably got to my sister’s house at 2 in the morning. »

Their brother Camron, who lives in Vermont, had also flown in. After arriving late at Annie’s, Savannah remembers speaking with authorities again on the phone.

The following morning, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos held the first of three news briefings he delivered in the first week after Nancy’s suspected kidnapping. He hasn’t held any since.

Off the bat, he had concerns, he said. He deployed search and rescue teams to scour the area — and also sent homicide detectives to the home.

« It’s very concerning what we’re learning from the house, » he told reporters.

Nancy had last been seen between 9:30 and 10 p.m. on Jan. 31, when her son-in-law dropped her off at home after dinner at Annie’s, according to authorities.

Nancy was taken in her pajamas, Savannah said. She had no shoes on. And the suspected abductor or abductors left behind valuables, like her purse, phone and Apple watch, as well as medication her life depended on.

Soon ransom demands started coming in — although many are believed to be from impostors. But Savannah said at least two seemed credible to her family, and the siblings recorded video responses.

« How is it possible that we are having to make a video speaking to a kidnapper who took an 84-year-old woman in the dead of night, in her pajamas, with no shoes, without her medicine and to beg for mercy? » Savannah asked Kotb.

Investigators and the family have repeatedly appealed to the public for help. There is a combined reward of more than $1.2 million in connection with the case — a million of it from the Guthrie family for their mother’s recovery.

« How can someone vanish without a trace? How? Someone knows something, » Savannah said in her Dateline interview. « Even if that something’s someone has been acting strange for the last 7, 8 weeks. Even if it’s just that. Somebody knows. »

  • Trump admin launches Gen Z hiring push as officials warn of federal youth gap

EXCLUSIVE: The Trump administration is launching a new effort to « make government cool again » by hiring Gen Z workers to rebuild the federal talent pipeline after a year of Department of Government Efficiency cuts and to compete more aggressively with the private sector, Fox News Digital has learned.

Officials told Fox News Digital that only about 7% of the federal workforce is under age 30 — something Trump administration officials want to change, saying it « poses long-term risks to government readiness and institutional strength. »

That 7% is compared to about 22% of the non-government workforce.

« By a factor of 3:1, the federal government is massively under-indexed on early career talent, » an official said.

FLASHBACK: DOGE’S GREATEST HITS: LOOK BACK AT THE DEPARTMENT’S MOST HIGH-PROFILE CUTS DURING TRUMP’S FIRST 100 DAYS

The focus on hiring is a shift from this time last year, when OPM was part of the Department of Government Efficiency’s efforts to reduce the size of the federal workforce.

Last year, more than 75,000 federal employees accepted a deferred resignation program—with more than 280,000 layoffs of federal workers and contractors.

Officials defended the new hiring move as one focused on competing with the private sector, explaining the number of DOGE reductions among younger employees was minimal.

« DOGE helped cut back where government was too large or inefficient, » an administration official told Fox News Digital. « This focus is on hiring—rebuilding the federal workforce with skilled early-career talent who can help tackle the challenges facing our country. »

DOGE SLASHES ‘WASTEFUL’ ‘PROBLEM-SOLVING’ CONTRACT WORTH $50K IN LATEST ROUND OF ELIMINATIONS

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management, in partnership with the White House, is launching a new « Early Career Talent Network » designed to connect emerging professionals with full-time career opportunities across the federal government.

The cross-agency, early career talent network can be found at Earlycareers.gov — where officials are encouraging young people to apply as they seek to bring a « broad cohort of full-time employees into the federal workforce. »

Officials say they are starting with five categories where they see current demand for early career talent— finance, human resources, engineering, project management and procurement.

Individuals will be hired « based on demonstrated talent, » not based on where or whether they went to college or how long they have been in a job, Fox News Digital learned.

« Building a strong pipeline of early-career talent is essential to the future of the federal workforce, » OPM Director Scott Kupor said. « We are making it easier for talented individuals to connect with meaningful careers in public service while helping agencies efficiently identify the talent they need to deliver results for the American people. »

BEN CARSON POINTS TO GEN Z CHURCH REVIVAL AS YOUNG AMERICANS PUSH BACK ON SECULAR CULTURE

An official told Fox News Digital that Kupor wants to « get the word out that folks early in their career can come to government, work on critically important, unique projects where they learn skills that will be marketable to both the private and public sector in the future. »

« He wants to make government cool again, » the official said.

Officials plan to visit college and university campuses later this year to expand their recruitment efforts.

  • 49ers GM quells buzz around electrical substation theory

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch did his best to shut down the buzz around the theory that an electrical substation near Levi’s Stadium could be the catalyst for the spate of injuries the team has suffered over the last few years.

The theory popped up on social media during the 2025 season, though the 49ers have played at Levi’s Stadium since 2014 and used the practice facility that is also near the substation since 1989.

Niners star George Kittle said in February he didn’t believe the rumors were true, but also wanted a definitive answer.

Lynch provided one Sunday as NFL owners began to meet in Phoenix, Arizona. He said the organization had a scientist come to the facility to see if there was anything awry.

« It basically was a big nothing burger, » Lynch told reporters, via ESPN. « We’re in a safe place of work…. It’s a normal place of work. It’s a normal gym. We are safe, we’re healthy, and we feel really good about that.

CAM NEWTON VIEWS ADDING 18TH REGULAR-SEASON GAME AS ‘GOOD BUSINESS,’ QUESTIONS HOW PRESEASON GAMES WILL WORK

« That was important to us, not just to turn a blind eye, but to look into it because it’s our players’ wellness. It’s not only our players’ wellness, it’s coaches, it’s staff, all that. And it’s encouraging. »

According to the 49ers, the scientist learned that players and staff were being exposed to an electromagnetic environment similar to that of a gym or average workplace.

Still, the injury bug is something the 49ers have to figure out as the seasons go on.

San Francisco was 12-5 in 2025, but players like Kittle, Brock Purdy, Ricky Pearsall and Mykell Williams each missed several games with injuries.

For now, it appears the substation theory has been shut down.

  • Tiger Woods’ teammate calls golfer’s DUI arrest ‘very disturbing’

Kevin Kisner, a PGA Tour golfer who is a teammate of Tiger Woods in The Golf League, expressed concern for the golf legend after his DUI arrest in Florida on Friday.

Kisner opened up about the incident while he was in the booth for NBC’s coverage of the Houston Open on Saturday.

« Very disturbing. He was really working hard on his game, trying to practice and get back in shape, » he said, via Fried Egg Golf. « He signed up for the U.S. Senior Open yesterday. He was trying to do anything he could to come back and try and help our TGL team, get ready, hopefully try and play the Masters.

« Just a really unfortunate incident, I guess, Brad (Faxon), the only positive is that nobody was injured in the incident and we can all move forward and hopefully help him get better. »

Woods returned to The Golf League for his first round of real competition since he underwent more surgeries on his back and to repair a torn Achilles.

On Friday, Woods was involved in a rollover crash in Jupiter Island. He was subsequently arrested after he refused to give a urine sample. He was released from Martin County Jail late Friday.

In his booking photo, Woods’ eyes appeared bloodshot, as he wore a blue polo shirt. Woods was seen leaving the jail in the passenger seat of a black SUV after his release on bail late Friday, according to The Associated Press.

TIGER WOODS FANS MAKE PRESENCE FELT AT PGA TOUR EVENT

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said in a news conference that Woods was traveling at « a high rate of speed » when his vehicle collided with another car, resulting in his vehicle rolling over onto the driver’s side.

Authorities said Woods « exemplified signs of impairment. » He blew « triple-zeroes » for alcohol but refused the urine test.

« DUI investigators came to the scene here, and Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment. They did several tests on him. Of course, he did explain the injuries and the surgeries that he had. We did take that into account, but they did do some in-depth roadside tests, » Budensiek added.

« We really weren’t suspicious of alcohol being involved in this case, and that proved to be true at the jail.… But when it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused. And, so, he’s been charged with DUI, with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. »

Woods was spotted on the phone after the crash, wearing navy blue shorts.

He has not commented on his arrest since the incident.

Woods was charged with DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a test, all misdemeanor charges. No one was injured, authorities said. Woods was alone in the car and crawled out of the passenger door after the crash.

  • Dem senator warns deportation could let Virginia woman’s illegal immigrant killer ‘escape accountability’

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., is calling on prosecutors to try, convict and punish the undocumented killer of Stephanie Minter, arguing that he must face American justice before he’s ordered to leave the country.

Kaine said he fears deportation could be a form of leniency.

« I’m not sure that if he’s deported, [that] he will really face the punishment that he should face. If you do a deportation now, what’s the guarantee he would really face severe consequences for what he’s done? » Kaine said.

« I think he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and then possibly deported after that, but I wouldn’t want him to escape accountability for the crime. »

TRUMP ADMIN ASKS SPANBERGER, VIRGINIA OFFICIALS NOT RELEASE ILLEGAL CHARGED WITH GROPING HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS

Authorities are charging Abdul Jalloh, a 32-year-old Sierra Leone native, with the murder of Stephanie Minter after authorities found her dead at a bus stop in Fairfax, Virginia last month.

Jalloh had already been arrested more than 30 times before his fatal confrontation with Minter, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Among others, his previous charges included rape, malicious wounding, assault, drug possession, identity theft, trespassing and more.

Local authorities dropped previous charges against Jalloh, allowing him to walk free.

IGNORED ICE DETAINERS ‘PUT LIVES AT RISK,’ DHS SAYS, TARGETING NEWSOM, PRITZKER, HEALEY

Kaine believes this time should be different.

« I think he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and then possibly deported after that, » Kaine said.

Jalloh has been charged with second-degree murder.

Even as questions remain about why Virginia authorities let Jalloh go, Kaine, who served as governor of Virginia from 2006 to 2010, posited that ICE may have failed to follow through on requests to detain Jalloh ahead of Minter’s murder.

« My experience when I was governor — and this is now 15 or 20 years ago — is that we would normally let ICE know before we let anybody out of prison in Virginia, and then they wouldn’t show up, » Kaine said.

VIRGINIA PROSECUTOR’S RECORD ON VIOLENT OFFENDERS SCRUTINIZED AFTER ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CHARGED IN MOM’S MURDER

« We would give them two-weeks notice [and say] ‘Hey, here’s somebody who’s here, come pick them up,’ and they wouldn’t show up. That was more my experience. »

Fox Digital reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for comment.

  • US allows Russian oil tanker to reach Cuba amid blockade as Trump says island ‘has to survive’

The U.S. government will allow a Russian tanker full of crude oil to reach Cuba, effectively easing a blockade that has pushed the island into an energy crisis, according to a report.

The Russian-flagged tanker, the Anatoly Kolodkin, was headed for Cuba on Sunday, carrying an estimated 730,000 barrels of oil, The New York Times reported, citing a U.S. official who had been briefed on the matter.

The tanker Anatoly Kolodkin was just off the eastern tip of Cuba on Sunday, ship tracking data showed.

« We have a tanker out there. We don’t mind having somebody get a boatload, because they need … they have to survive, » President Donald Trump told reporters on Sunday when asked about the report.

CUBA’S ENTIRE ELECTRICAL GRID COLLAPSES, LEAVING WHOLE ISLAND WITHOUT POWER

« If a country wants to send some oil into Cuba right now, I have no problem whether it’s Russia or not, » he added.

Trump had sought to restrict oil shipments to Cuba in an effort to pressure its government.

The U.S. government has temporarily eased some sanctions on Russian oil shipments to help stabilize global energy markets amid disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz following U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran that began last month.

CUBAN OFFICIAL REVEALS MILITARY ‘PREPARING’ FOR CONFLICT AFTER TRUMP CONSIDERS ‘TAKING’ ISLAND

The Anatoly Kolodkin, which departed from Primorsk, Russia, could soon dock at the Matanzas port in Cuba if it remains on its current path, according to tracking services MarineTraffic and LSEG.

The oil would provide significant relief to Cuba, where President Miguel Díaz-Canel has said fuel shortages have persisted for months, forcing strict gas rationing and deepening the island’s energy crisis.

The U.S. capture of then-Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro in January stripped a key Cuban ally who had been providing oil to the island on favorable terms.

The Trump administration then blocked all Venezuelan oil shipments to Cuba and vowed to impose punitive tariffs on any third country that supplied shipments to the island, forcing Mexico to stop its exports to Cuba.

Another ship, the Hong Kong-flagged Sea Horse, was also carrying about 200,000 barrels of Russian fuel to Cuba, but was rerouted to Venezuela.

  • Lionel Richie issues warning to rude celebrities after Chappell Roan backlash

Lionel Richie knows the fame game can be a challenge, and issued a warning to rising celebrities after Chappell Roan faced backlash following a negative fan encounter.

During a sit-down with his son-in-law, Joel Madden, the Good Charlotte frontman admitted he hadn’t once heard his father-in-law complain about fans approaching him in public.

« I was invisible once, » Richie explained, before acknowledging that he has a difficult time ignoring fans. « They want to say something to you. And you can see it on their face. They want to say something. And for me to ignore them, would be the worst. »

RIO MAYOR BANS CHAPPELL ROAN FROM PERFORMING IN HIS CITY AFTER FAN INCIDENT CONTROVERSY

He added, « Sometimes you meet the person you idolize the most, and you’re sorry you met them.

The « All Night Long » singer said, « I made a promise to myself – I’m never going to be that. Never. »

Richie noted that star status isn’t for everyone.

« The thing that happens a lot of times is, I tell people when they get into the business, there’s one thing you didn’t calculate, » he said. « I hope you like people.

« Because if you don’t like people, here’s how it’s going to sound. You spend the first half of your career going, ‘Look at me, look at me, look at me, look at me, look at me.’ And then you finally get famous. ‘Don’t look at me. Don’t look at me. Don’t look at me.’ »

He added, « The universe gave you what you asked for. Now what is it about people that you don’t like, or you want to be famous and rich without the people? It doesn’t work like that. You have to be able to engage. »

While in town last week to perform at Lollapalooza Brazil, the « Pink Pony Club » singer allegedly directed security to scold his daughter after she spotted Chappell having breakfast at the hotel in São Paulo, according to professional soccer star Jorginho Frello.

Chappell, 28, addressed the incident on Instagram stories and later denied the fan encounter after the « very upsetting » situation caught the eye of Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.

In a statement shared on X, Cavaliere said that Chappell was no longer welcome to perform in his city.

« I mean that as long as I’m in charge of our city — this young lady @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo No Rio, » he wrote in a statement translated from Portuguese. I doubt that Shakira would do that! By the way, @FrelloJorginho, your little one is already the guest of honor from the organization in May! »

The « Good Luck, Babe! » singer jumped on social media Sunday morning to explain her « half of the story » while lying in bed.

« I didn’t even see. I didn’t even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me. No one bothered me, » the musician confided in her followers while lying in bed. « I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel, I think these people were staying at the hotel as well. »

« I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything. »

She added, « I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy. »

« I am sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something, that you would do something and that if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that. »

Jorginho, a midfielder for Campeonato Brasileiro Série A club Flamengo, wrote on Instagram stories that his family went through a « very upsetting situation » involving Chappell prior to her Lollapalooza Brazil set.

He claimed online that his 11-year-old daughter was reprimanded by Chappell’s security for looking at the singer.

« The worst part is she didn’t even approach her, » he wrote. « She simply walked past the singer’s table, looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to sit with her mum. She didn’t say anything, didn’t ask for anything. »

Jorghino wrote that after his daughter walked by, « A large security guard came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter, saying that she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people. »

He added, « It’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans. At the end of the day, they are the ones who build all of this. I sincerely hope this serves as a moment of reflection. No one should have to go through this, especially not a child. »

  • ‘No Kings’ protesters debut rewrite of ‘America the Beautiful’ verse to include ‘thy immigrant’

« No Kings » protesters gathered in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, rewriting a familiar American hymn to include a « thy immigrant » verse, as tensions over immigration enforcement and a prolonged government shutdown continued to escalate.

During the rally in D.C. protesters can be seen singing « America the Beautiful, » and adding additional lines such as: « For beautiful, thy immigrant / Who hail from every land / By grace and work and diligence / Like gifts from God’s own hands… America, America… To greet the poor, / And reach the shore / With open arms again, » according to video captured at the scene by reporter Brecca Stoll with « The Daily Wire. »

The protest marked the third nationwide « No Kings » demonstration since President Donald Trump returned to office in January 2025. The D.C. rally was one of many around the nation.

500 GROUPS WITH $3B IN REVENUES ARE BEHIND THE #NOKINGS PROTESTS AND COMMUNIST CALL FOR ‘REVOLUTION’

An estimated crowd of thousands was seen Saturday outside the Lincoln Memorial during a march in the nation’s capital — numbers similar to « No Kings » protests across the U.S.

« No Kings » says on its website that « As President Trump escalates his attempts to control us, it is on us, the people, to show that we will fight to protect one another and our country. »

The movement provided protesters a highly-structured document for organizers titled « March 28 Toolkit, » instructing viewers on how to recruit their own speakers, delegate roles, register their event and use « No Kings » branded media materials. It also laid out best practices for logistics, as well as how to avoid permitting and insurance requirements for event-holders.

Representatives from « No Kings » did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

DEMS BLOCK DHS FUNDING AFTER GOP REJECTS THEIR COUNTER, THUNE SAYS SCHUMER ‘GOING IN CIRCLES’

HOUSE CONSERVATIVES RAGE AGAINST SENATE DHS SHUTDOWN DEAL

The demonstrations come as scrutiny intensifies over ICE operations, particularly following two January 2026 incidents in Minneapolis. Residents Renee Good and Alex Pretti were killed in separate encounters involving federal immigration agents, fueling criticism from activists and lawmakers.

Their deaths prompted administrative changes, with border czar Tom Homan stepping in to oversee operations in Minneapolis and ending the ICE operation there. Border patrol commander-at-large Greg Bovino was reassigned and later retired, while former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem was replaced by former Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin.

SEN MAZIE HIRONO TROLLED FOR ADMITTING TRUMP NOT ‘A KING,’ AND ‘NEVER HAS BEEN’

The broader dispute has also been tied to the ongoing partial government shutdown, which has disrupted travel nationwide. Unpaid TSA agents have skipped shifts, contributing to long airport lines during peak travel periods.

Homan maintained that ICE personnel had helped stabilize conditions, arguing their presence reduced delays, while continuing to press lawmakers to restore funding.

Meanwhile, Democrats have refused to advance funding without changes to ICE, with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., reiterating that his caucus would not support legislation absent reforms.

A short-term DHS funding bill passed by House Republicans on Friday was quickly rejected by Senate Democrats, with Schumer calling it « dead on arrival » and emphasizing concerns over enforcement practices and accountability.

As negotiations stall, both sides remain entrenched, with protests expected to continue and administration officials continuing to push for a resolution to restore DHS operations and address disruptions tied to the shutdown.

  • Van Hollen clashes with ABC host over what Democrats actually got from the DHS shutdown fight

Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-MD., clashed with ABC News host Jon Karl on Sunday as he was questioned over what Democrats have achieved in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown fight.

The government has been in a partial shutdown for 44 days, affecting DHS. Democrats are demanding stringent reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the battle to fund DHS.

Karl asked Van Hollen about the « bottom line, » noting Congress was on recess and the DHS was still not funded and that Van Hollen had issued a statement that Republicans had « finally relented » on Friday.

« So when the Senate passed that bill and there was that brief moment, it looked like, you know, dawn had broken you put out a statement saying that Republicans had, quote, finally relented, » Karl said. « What did Democrats get out of this? Even if that passed, what did you get out of this this DHS shutdown‘s going on for well over a month? What have you gotten for it? »

DEMS BLOCK DHS FUNDING AFTER GOP REJECTS THEIR COUNTER, THUNE SAYS SCHUMER ‘GOING IN CIRCLES’

Van Hollen said Democrats wanted to fully fund TSA, and in turn, get rid of the long lines at airports. However, he said, ICE is a « lawless operation, » and said the Democrats wanted reforms.

« I guess what’s confusing here is you have fought and blocked the funding for the Department of Homeland Security because you object — as you just outlined — to what ICE has been doing, and you wanted to force changes, » Karl said during an interview with Van Hollen. « And yet, the only thing that has been assured throughout all of this is that ICE already has the money. Because as you said, $75 billion passed in the budget bill last year. So you’re holding up the entirety of the Department of Homeland Security because you object to ICE and you want changes to ICE, but through it all, ICE continues to have the money. »

Van Hollen accused Karl of making a « false statement » in saying that they were holding up the DHS funding.

BORDER CZAR TOM HOMAN RIPS CONGRESS FOR PAID VACATION AS TSA AGENTS STRUGGLE WITHOUT PAY

« We have said repeatedly, repeatedly, repeatedly, we should fund TSA, we should fund FEMA, we should fund the Coast Guard. We are not prepared to give ICE another $10 billion on top of the money they already have and are using in many of these lawless operations, » Van Hollen said.

Karl interjected, « and fighting over that additional $10 billion, you are—you are holding up the rest of Department of Homeland Security. »

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

« We’re not holding it up, » Van Hollen shot back.

« You’re holding up unless it doesn’t include money for ICE. That’s just a fact, » Karl responded.

The House passed a stopgap measure that would temporarily fund the Department of Homeland Security late Friday.

The two-month funding extension approved by the House is likely dead on arrival in the Senate, where any funding bill needs to overcome a 60-vote threshold, meaning buy-in from a handful of Democrats. That hurdle has not stopped House GOP leadership from arguing that their rejection of a Senate-passed deal — and pitching a subsequent rival DHS funding proposal — is the way out of the shutdown.

« We’re not going to split apart two of the most important agencies in the government and leave them hanging like that, » House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., told reporters leaving the U.S. Capitol on Friday night. « We just couldn’t do it. »

  • Nick Cannon backs President Trump and speaks out on ‘conservative’ views

Nick Cannon is getting real about his political stance.

During Friday’s episode of Cannon’s « Big Drive » online talk show, the « Masked Singer » host had an open conversation with model Amber Rose about President Donald Trump and the political parties.

« Democrats don’t care about Black people, and they don’t care about people of color, and the Republicans do, and that’s the misconception, » Rose said.

« I agree with you 100 percent, » Cannon replied. « People don’t know that the Democrats are the party of the KKK. People don’t know that the Republicans are the party that freed the slaves. »

« I mean, both you and I have some conservative views, » he continued. « You just a little bit more outspoken than I am. And honestly, I don’t subscribe to either party. I rock with W. E. B. Du Bois, when he said there’s no such thing as two parties. It’s just one evil party with two different names. »

When the topic of conversation turned to Trump, Cannon said, « Motherf—er’s cleaning house, » and is « doing what he said he was gonna do. »

« We got the Gulf of America now. [Trump is] like the club. He’s charging a $5 million bottle service fee to get into the country. I f— with Trump, » he added.

While Cannon has been more reserved about discussing his political beliefs, Rose has been open about how her support for Trump has impacted her career.

« During the election, I was ‘canceled,’ » Rose told Maxim, as the magazine’s February cover star. « Now? All the naysayers are quiet. They see he’s already changing our country for the better. »

At the Republican National Convention in 2024 in 2024, Rose said she would not be silenced.

« I let go of my fear or judgment of being misunderstood, of getting attacked by the left, and I put the red hat on, » she told attendees. « The left told me to hate Trump. And even worse, to hate the other side: the people who support him. »

« Unfortunately, the ‘woke’ left cancels people for having a different ideology, » she told Maxim. « Fortunately for me, I don’t give a f— and will always stand 10 toes down until the wheels fall off, regardless of what my beliefs may be. I used to be on the left and thought I was doing the right thing. That’s why it’s so important to have open conversations. »

« On the left, there’s no objective truth. It’s only about feelings, » she stated. « As a society, we all need to get back to reality and have these difficult conversations to bring us all back to a better place. »

  • Arizona advances to men’s Final Four for first time since 2001

The Arizona Wildcats snapped their Final Four drought on Saturday night with an Elite Eight victory over Purdue in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The Wildcats had gone 25 years without being in the Final Four. The last time the Wildcats got this far was in 2001 when they lost to the Duke Blue Devils in the national championship. They are now one win away from getting back there.

Arizona freshman Koa Peat scored 20 points as they defeated Purdue, 79-64. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the West Region.

« Just being a kid from Arizona, to take this team to a Final Four, man, it’s a blessing, » Peat said. « I’m proud of these guys. We worked for this. We’re not done yet. »

The Wildcats’ defense was able to do enough to frustrate Purdue star Braden Smith, who is the NCAA record-holder in assists. Smith had 13 points, seven assists, five rebounds and turned the ball over three times.

Oscar Cluff added 14 points and Trey Kaufman-Renn was held to 10 points.

Peat became the sixth freshman to score at least 20 points to help his team win the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight matchups.

TEXAS COACH GIVES FIERY, EXPLETIVE-LADEN HALFTIME SPEECH BEFORE LONGHORNS’ UPSET OVER GONZAGA

« They call him Mr. Arizona, » Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd said. « Koa is special, and I know you guys hear it, but you got to hear it again. Four state championships at the same high school. Didn’t go to a prep school. Four gold medals with USA Basketball. No one in FIBA history has ever done that. And helped lead Arizona to a Final Four. »

Arizona moved to 36-2 with the win. The Wildcats’ 36 wins are a single-season record for wins in program history.

Lloyd is in his fifth season as head coach. He took over for Sean Miller before the 2021-22 season. Miller was the third coach that took over after legendary coach Lute Olson stepped down.

« Without Lute — without Sean doing what he did for those 12 years he was here, I wouldn’t be able to do what we did today. I fully understand that, » Lloyd said. « Those guys, this is for them too. You know, I have no problem sharing the success of this team with the coaches that came before me. »

Arizona will play the winner between Michigan and Tennessee.

  • Gina Gershon walked away from cult horror franchise over ‘exploitative’ topless scene

In Hollywood, Gina Gershon has always trusted her gut.

Early in her career, the actress was offered a role in « Friday the 13th Part 2, » one she ultimately passed on after discovering she would be topless. Gershon has a new memoir out, « AlphaPussy: How I Survived the Valley and Learned to Love My Boobs, » chronicling her rise to stardom and the many famous faces she met along the way.

« I was offered a lead in that movie, » Gershon told Fox News Digital. « And, of course, I was so excited to act in movies, but it definitely felt kind of exploitative to me and a little silly that right before she gets killed, her top has to come off. »

GINA GERSHON REVEALS ‘CREEPY’ ENCOUNTER WITH MAN WHO LATER MURDERED PLAYBOY PLAYMATE DOROTHY STRATTEN

In the book, Gershon wrote, « At the time, those kinds of slasher movies always had girls dying with their breasts exposed. My character would be killed by a stake through the heart, blood dripping down her t–s. That seemed pretty lame to me: exploitation 101. »

Gershon turned to her father for advice.

« Listen, I was really lucky that I had a father who really taught me how to believe in my own decisions, » she told Fox News Digital. « It wasn’t like I had to rebel against my family. I remember asking him about it, thinking he was going to say, ‘No daughter of mine is going to do that!’ And he said, ‘It’s your body. If you’re comfortable with it, I’m comfortable with it.’ »

« When I sat and thought about it, I just thought, ‘I don’t really want to do this,’ » she shared. « I wasn’t comfortable with it. It seemed silly to me. Not that I had anything against nudity — I grew up on European films — but only if it makes sense for the character and the story. But when it just seems silly, I don’t know. It just felt like it was something that wasn’t for me. »

After speaking with her father, Gershon turned down the role.

« My dad may have died too soon, but he taught me many valuable lessons in the 19 years I had with him, » Gershon wrote. « Mainly, he taught me to trust myself in making my own decisions. »

« This theme of trusting my gut kept showing up in my life, » she added.

It’s key advice that stayed with Gershon over the years, including when she starred in 1995’s « Showgirls. » The film, directed by Paul Verhoeven, follows the rise and moral unraveling of a young dancer. It also starred « Saved by the Bell » alum Elizabeth Berkley.

« I think Paul secretly enjoyed it when we argued about the most mundane things, » she wrote. « Sometimes I suspected he was throwing things out there just to see if he could get a rise out of me. Or maybe not. Maybe it was annoying that I didn’t just roll over and do what he asked.

« Whatever the case, our battles were becoming exhausting. And let me say this: I liked Paul. A lot! Especially when we weren’t locked in some game of control. He is a very smart, very interesting guy. A mathematician and theologian. I really enjoyed our chats about religion and philosophy. »

Gershon said they were scheduled to shoot a scene that took place in Cristal’s dressing room. That’s when she received a surprise.

« I was in the hair and makeup trailer once again, waiting for my team to transform me, when Paul came in and said without any warning, ‘In today’s scene, I think it would be good if you showed your vagina,’ » she wrote. « Whoa, that came out of the f—–g blue. Just that morning, I’d made a deal with myself that, no matter what, I would avoid all arguments that day. Oh boy, this one was going to be a doozy.

« ’Why?’ I asked. And in my most sincere, calm-actress voice, without trying to provoke or sound like an a—–e, I continued, ‘I mean, what’s the reason Cristal would do that? I’m open to anything as long as it makes sense. How does it reveal my character? How does it move the story forward?’ »

The filmmaker pointed out that Berkley would be doing so and that Sharon Stone had also taken on an infamous scene in his previous film, « Basic Instinct. »

Gershon wrote that she kept calm, noting that her contract didn’t require that level of nudity for the role. To avoid a tug-of-war over the scene, she defused the situation by proposing an exaggerated alternative. It prompted the director to drop the idea and proceed with the scene as originally written.

« To my utter relief, Paul slowly backed out of my trailer, looking at me like I was bonkers, and said, ‘No, it’s OK, we will do the scene as written. Forget I said anything,’ » she wrote. « He never mentioned my vagina again. »

In response, a spokesperson for Verhoeven told Fox News Digital, « Mr. Verhoeven has not read the memoir, and has no comment. »

« I think the real challenge was that I went into ‘Showgirls’ thinking it was a completely different sort of movie, » Gershon explained to Fox News Digital.

« It was very serious, and I loved the part. It was very operatic in my mind. And then when I got to the set, I realized it was a completely different film from what I had envisioned. So I think the biggest challenge was to adjust to what it was and to figure out a way to play it that made sense in the environment. »

Despite widespread attention over its NC-17 rating and explicit content, the film underperformed at the box office, People magazine reported. According to the outlet, « Showgirls » made less than its $45 million budget and was widely panned by critics.

But today, it’s widely regarded as a cult classic.

« ’Showgirls’ has been such an interesting journey, » Gershon told Fox News Digital. « It’s just funny to me how when it came out, so many journalists jumped on the bandwagon of, ‘This movie is horrible.’ They really ripped it apart. »

« Thankfully, I kind of came out of it fairly unscathed, but still, it’s not a good feeling, » she reflected. « You want the whole movie to do well. And I actually think it could have done well. I just thought the marketing was silly, and it never should have been [rated] NC-17 to begin with. That’s a whole other conversation. »

« Now, some of those journalists, it’s like the first question they want to talk about. ‘Let’s talk about ‘Showgirls.’ It’s such a cult classic!’ » she laughed. « All of a sudden, people who hated it love it now. I’m happy it’s brought so many people hours of pleasure. It really taught me not to pay too much attention to reviews. You can’t really listen to critics so much. That was my big lesson out of that. »

Guided by her instincts, Gershon said her goal has always been to tell great stories.

« I just want to do something that I feel proud of or that I would like to go see, » Gershon added.

  • Cruz refuses to take sides between Cornyn, Paxton in high-stakes GOP Senate clash

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is staying neutral in the combustible GOP Senate nomination showdown in Texas between longtime Sen. John Cornyn and state Attorney General Ken Paxton.

« I like John. I like Ken. They’re both friends of mine. I have supported both of them in the past. I’ve worked closely with both of them. I’ve endorsed both of them. I’ve campaigned with both of them, and so I’m staying out, » the conservative firebrand three-term senator said in a Fox News Digital interview on Wednesday.

The winner of the May 26 Republican runoff election will face off with Democratic nominee state Rep. James Talarico in this autumn’s general election in a race that’s among a handful which may decide if the GOP keeps its Senate majority in the midterms. The GOP currently controls the chamber, 53–47.

BRUISING GOP SENATE PRIMARY SHOWDOWN HEADS INTO OVERTIME

Cornyn edged Paxton by a point in the March 3 primary, as they were the top two contenders among a crowded field of Republican candidates. But since neither of the heated rivals cracked the 50% threshold to win the nomination, the race headed into overtime.

While some of Cruz’s top outsider political advisers are supporting Paxton, the senator is declining to take sides.

« I trust the voters of Texas to make this decision, » the senator said.

‘OPEN BORDERS, TRUMP-HATING RADICAL’—REPUBLICANS QUICKLY POUNCE ON TALARICO

Talarico, who is considered a Democratic Party rising star, topped progressive firebrand Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a vocal Trump critic, in their party’s primary. Talarico is trying to become the first Democrat in nearly four decades to win a Senate election in right-leaning Texas.

The Cornyn campaign and aligned super PACs have spent big bucks to run ads attacking Paxton, arguing that Democrats will flip the seat in the general election if Paxton’s the GOP’s nominee.

Cornyn, his allies, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), the campaign arm of the Senate GOP, repeatedly pointed to the slew of scandals and legal problems that have battered Paxton over the past decade, as well as his ongoing messy divorce.

Paxton, a longtime supporter and ally of President Donald Trump and a MAGA firebrand who grabbed significant national attention by filing lawsuits against the Obama and Biden administrations, has pushed back by repeatedly questioning Cornyn’s conservative credentials and past support for Trump.

The president, whose sway in Republican nomination battles remains immense, stayed neutral during the primary campaign.

Hours after Cornyn and Paxton advanced to the runoff, Trump took to social media to announce, « I will be making my Endorsement soon. »

Trump added that Trump added that he would « be asking the candidate that I don’t Endorse to immediately DROP OUT OF THE RACE! »

All signs at the time pointed to Trump backing Cornyn.

But more than three weeks since his social media post, Trump still remains neutral. And that has the MAGA faithful, many of whom are backing Paxton, hopeful that the president will stay out of the race, which would be a major victory for the Texas attorney general.

Paxton traveled to the president’s Mar-a-Lago residence last weekend for a Palm Beach County GOP dinner, where he briefly met with President Trump, two sources with knowledge of the encounter confirmed to Fox News Digital. One of the sources called it a ‘check in’ between Trump and Paxton. The news was first reported by Politico.

There’s been a dearth of public opinion polling in the runoff, but the two surveys that have been released suggest Paxton holds a single-digit lead.

The race between Cornyn and Paxton is viewed by many Republicans as a battle between MAGA world and the grassroots versus the party establishment for the soul of the GOP.

  • Stephen A Smith says there is ‘no excuse’ for ‘biological men’ competing in women’s sports

Outspoken ESPN star Stephen A. Smith took a clear position in the ongoing debate about transgender athletes’ participation in girls and women’s sports.

« Biological men should not be competing against biological girls in sports, period, » Smith said during an appearance on « Real Time with Bill Maher » after the Olympics’ policy on transgender women was mentioned.

« What about protecting the young ladies? Young ladies going up against biological men — biological men — there is no excuse for that. »

Smith then mentioned former University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas.

OLYMPIANS REACT TO THE IOC’S POLICY CHANGE TO PROTECT WOMEN’S SPORTS

« Lia Thomas, for example, was a male, and he was ranked over 400th in the world. … And then he became a she. … And No. 1. Well … does it really take an Einstein to realize that there’s something wrong with that picture? »

Smith has previously spoken about his views on transgender athletes in girls and women’s sports, including during a February 2025 Radio Row interview ahead of that year’s Super Bowl.

« So, that’s how I look at it. LGBTQ rights and all that stuff, I’m in full support of that, but when transgender athletes — men — are transitioning to women and they’re competing in female sports, that’s a different animal to me, » he said.

« That’s not just about LGBTQ rights. That’s about preying on the rights of females out there everywhere who were born female, and they’re at a decided disadvantage. »

Those comments from Smith surfaced around the same time in 2025 when President Donald Trump signed the « Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports » executive order, which directed federal agencies to interpret Title IX based on biological sex at birth.

The NCAA complied with Trump’s executive order and changed its policy.

  • Illinois knocks off Iowa to reach Final Four after buzzer malfunction delay

For the first time in more than two decades, the Illinois men’s basketball team will still be dancing when the Final Four tips off.

Iowa’s underdog run in the NCAA Tournament ended Saturday with a 71-59 loss to a dominant Illinois team. Before Illinois could cut down the nets at Houston’s Toyota Center, a buzzer malfunction caused a loud, roughly 10-minute delay.

The buzzer initially sounded signaling the end of a media timeout with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half. The horn continued blaring for about another seven minutes.

Players stood on the court ready to play for a couple of minutes before both teams started to warm up as the buzzer continued to sound.

It was finally silenced, to cheers from the crowd, but then the main scoreboard and video screen that hangs over the middle of the court went dark.

The game ultimately resumed with the big scoreboard still off. Two smaller scoreboards at each end of the arena were working.

Freshman guard Keaton Wagler scored 25 points to help secure Illinois’ first Final Four berth since 2005.

This will be the sixth overall trip to the Final Four for Illinois, which has never won a national title. The Fighting Illini will face either Duke or UConn next week in Indianapolis.

  • Slain college student’s mother vows ‘fight for justice’ after illegal immigrant charged in Chicago killing

The mother of slain college student Sheridan Gorman is speaking out, vowing a « fight for justice » after the 18-year-old was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant earlier this month in Chicago.

Jessica Gorman delivered emotional remarks Saturday at a vigil in Yorktown Heights, New York, honoring her daughter, a Loyola University Chicago freshman whose life was cut short in what authorities describe as a sudden, violent attack.

« I want to say this gently, but honestly, as a mom. I’m angry, » Jessica Gorman said. « I’m like completely heartbroken, and we are going to fight for justice for our sweet Sheridan, and we’re going to fight for change. »

While acknowledging that « not everyone » will see the situation the same way, Jessica Gorman underscored what she described as a universal truth shared by parents.

WATCH: SENATE HEARING GOES SILENT AFTER ANGEL FATHER CONFRONTS TOP DEM OVER DAUGHTER’S DEATH

« At the heart of all of this, we all want the same thing — for your children and for ours to be safe, to be protected, and to come home, » Jessica Gorman said. « Because, at the end of the day, that’s what this is all about. All of our kids, every single one of them, protecting them, loving them, showing up for them. And that is how we honor her. »

Sheridan Gorman, a New York native, was killed at around 1:06 a.m. March 19 while with friends near a pier in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood.

Officials allege Jose Medina-Medina, 25, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, fired one shot at the Loyola University Chicago student, killing her.

Gorman was reportedly only a few months away from completing her freshman year.

Medina-Medina was apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol on May 9, 2023, and was released into the U.S. under the Biden administration, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

At the vigil, the family’s attorney, Thomas Tripodianos, warned against what he described as growing complacency about public safety.

« If we accept this, even silently, then we are accepting a reality where young people are not as safe as they should be. And that is not acceptable, » Tripodianos said. « And there must be justice. Real justice. »

Family members and friends also shared memories of Sheridan, remembering her impact on those around her.

« Sheridan, you are deeply loved at Loyola, » Steven Betancourt, director of campus ministry at Loyola University Chicago, said. « You are deeply missed, and you will live on in the lives you touched and forever changed. »

ANGEL PARENTS SLAM ILLINOIS SANCTUARY LAWS AFTER ‘PREVENTABLE’ TRAGEDY IN STUDENT’S DEATH

The Gorman family has sharply criticized Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, arguing that their daughter’s death « demands accountability. »

« She was doing something entirely normal — walking near her campus with friends. She should be here, » the Gorman family said regarding comments by Johnson.

The suspect appeared in court Friday and was ordered to remain in custody, according to FOX 32 Chicago.

He faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a gun.

  • New study reveals most stressed US states — and they aren’t where you’d expect

Americans hoping to unwind on their next trip may want to think twice about where they’re headed.

A comparison of all 50 states across 40 indicators of stress — including work, money, family and health factors — found that densely populated states with major metro areas did not top the list, according to a new WalletHub study. Instead, states across the South and Southwest ranked among the most stressed overall.

Louisiana ranks as the most stressed state in the country for 2026, followed by Kentucky, New Mexico, West Virginia and Arkansas, WalletHub found. Rounding out the top 10 were Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Mississippi and Alabama.

The results may come as a surprise to travelers who might expect New York or Illinois to top the list. Instead, both states ranked lower, with New York at No. 18 and Illinois at No. 30.

Experts say the findings indicate that stress isn’t just tied to fast-paced city life but is often linked to broader economic and health challenges.

« Where we live can shape how much stress we experience, » Cassandra D. Chaney, a professor at Louisiana State University who studies family stress, said in a WalletHub news release.

« These realities remind us that stress is not simply an individual problem, » she added. « Broader social and economic environments play a powerful role in shaping daily stressors. »

In Louisiana, factors such as high poverty rates, limited access to health care and mental health services, and job insecurity contribute to elevated stress levels, Chaney noted.

About 16% of residents skipped medical care due to cost, and the state ranks among the worst for poor mental health and depression while also having relatively few psychologists per capita, according to the report. It also recorded the eighth-highest average unemployment rate last year and the lowest job security of any state.

Kentucky, meanwhile, faces significant financial strain, with one of the highest bankruptcy rates and among the lowest median credit scores in the country.

« New Mexico … faces high crime rates, financial hardship and significant family instability, » Chaney added. « Nevada experiences high unemployment and bankruptcy rates, contributing to financial stress among residents. »

For travelers to popular destinations such as Nevada (No. 6) and California (No. 12), the data suggests daily life may differ from the experience visitors see.

Meanwhile, some of the least stressed states may offer clues for those seeking a more relaxing getaway.

South Dakota ranked as the least stressed state, followed by Utah, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Vermont, according to the report. These states tend to perform better in areas such as economic stability, health care access and work-life balance.

They also report higher rates of adequate sleep, an often overlooked factor tied to lower stress levels, according to the report.

Rounding out the top 10 least stressed states were Hawaii, Virginia, Wisconsin, Kansas and North Carolina.

Experts note that stress is influenced by multiple factors and can vary by individual.

« While we cannot eliminate stress completely, we can become more intentional about how we manage it, » Chaney said.

Chip Lupo, an analyst at WalletHub, added in a statement, « There are plenty of small ways to manage stress, from staying active and pursuing hobbies to taking time off work and seeking help from a mental health professional. »

The analysis compared all 50 states across four key categories — work, money, family and health and safety — using 40 weighted metrics and data from sources including the U.S. Census Bureau, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
